Loan of ECUmate Yorks/Lancs
Discussion
A plea for help from my fellow northerners!
Car ('97 500) has been running rich recently (smell of fuel/soot on the back wall of the garage)
Anyway, having not driven her for a few weeks I tried to start and she promptly flooded. Managed to get it going but died again a few minutes later (stank of petrol).
Now languishing in my garage
Plugs flooded so going to replace them with new.
Not sure on the cause. I'm getting a spark and all ignition components except ignition amp were replaced in the summer.
Before I go any further I just wanted to check the fuelling components (temp sensor, AFM etc) and wondered if someone could loan me an ecumate for a few days?
Alternatively point me towards a likely culprit.
Could a dodgy ignition amp cause this ? I only ask as this is the only part of the ignition that I have never changed and when I tested for a spark it was there but looked a bit weak.

I have rover gauge and in Bingley
Bet it's the coolant sencer
Yeah I heard it's a common failure but would it cause flooding on startup? My thought was that if this failed and constantly read cold then the engine would be relatively over-fuelling when the engine is hot. As the car is flooding from startup I wasn't so sure the coolant sensor would be coming into play.Bet it's the coolant sencer
I'm new to EFI (have just ordered some books from Amazon as this event has made me wonder about ditching the Lucas hot wire set up)

Rover gauge good then Peter?
funny mine when cold takes 2-3 minutes for idle to settle. Goes up to 1500 rpm then drops to nearly stalling. Any pressure on the throttle stalls it. Absolutely fine once idle settles.
sounds similar to OP ?
Yes there good Rob for £35 you can't go wrong and you can see how far out your temp gauge is out ( mines cock on)funny mine when cold takes 2-3 minutes for idle to settle. Goes up to 1500 rpm then drops to nearly stalling. Any pressure on the throttle stalls it. Absolutely fine once idle settles.

Good to hear the glass back is getting there

I can't be of any help on this (Northants) but still reeling from the title of the thread - could a Yorkshireman really be considering assistance from a Lancastrian !!!!!
I’m not a native Yorkshire man. In fact I’m originally from Bristol but I’ve got a flat cap and everything now!Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
