This has been a good birthday week. Not only did I aquire a nice 72mm plenum but I also bit the bullet and bought some used heads. I say used in the loosest possible way, they have not been fitted to a car and are 'as new' thumbup

Details:
Stage 3 big valve, fully ported, double valve spring, new castings (everything is brand new) 10 bolt high comp 450 heads. I took some crude measurement using the girlfriends tape measure, as far as I can tell the exhaust ports are 37mm-ish and the inlet are 46mm-ish.

My collection of parts is coming together nicely, all I need know, I think, are gaskets, induction kit and saundries...... ohh, and management...... and someone to put it all together biggrin

Ohh I've been on that slippery slope since I bought her smile It started with a Clive Ford Y-Piece to make it sound better. That turned into a set of his very special modded manifolds and it won't stop biggrin

There is HRC2479 stamped on them. I beleive this makes them the last of the line heads, dunno if that makes them the 'best' heads or not confused

Flip em upside down, fill the chambers with diesel check nothing drips through before fitting

Thought they might be. I had a set of those, with 37mm and 43mm valves. Came off a 450 that was making over 300 bhp with them. In the end I went a different route engine-wise, and sold the heads to someone putting a 4.3 TVR engine into a Landrover eek

However, they should suit your car well, and add 20-30 bhp over standard heads. Just check that the cam you are running won't shove the opening valves into the rising pistons.

I agree about the Clive Y - a work of art. For those who haven't seen one:

Do you know the actual heads that I have bought? The owner said they'd be good for around 325BHP, I don't have a reason to not believe him after measuring the port sizes.

That Y-Piece is indeed a work of art....... this however is even better......

Sounds cloud9

Nick, what's your plan to control fuel/spark? Tornado or aftermarket ECU?

I'm looking a stage III V8D heads and induction kit.

I may well wait another year however and concentrate on some cosmetics. But give me 30 minutes and I'll change my mind again. smile

I know the type of head, not the actual physical lumps of metal in your garage. Mine were hardly ported at all, which is part of the reason i went a different route, so 325 bhp is perfectly possible.
if you google that head stamped number you will have some interesting reading.

I WANT that exhaust system - it is the even lengths one, and looks the mutts.....bounce

It is indeed the equal length pipes, I have the 2nd of the 2 sets Clive made, it has bigger primaries than the 1st, so good for a few more Horses on the top end. Can't see the other set being available for sale any time soon, my set won't be either wink

those heads mentioned above are indeed now sitting in a 4.3 litre defeder which goes like the clappers - manual of course - and no cats to worry about.

Since it'll be a few months or so before these heads get fitted, how do I go about storing them safely?

At the moment they are wrapped in a clear plastic (industrial cling film type stuff) and in a garage.

If it was me I would keep them in the house to avoid them getting damp. But I am not an expert. I kept mine in my office for about 8months before selling them, not a mark on them, but I don't know if there would have been problems if i had left them in the cold and damp, if you see what i mean

Those will be my old manifolds smile Clive made them for me when I fitted an ecu and mapped his old 5 litre griff engine.

How come they are still shiny and silver? My Y piece has gone a nice bronze colour with heat cycles.....

The picture is from when Clive first made them smile They have a really nice patina and gone that sort of purple colour of petrol in water around the area where they meet the heads.

I wont bother sticking them in the garage then, I'll leave them in the house where SWMBO can't find them thumbup
