Hi all

My Chim has started to make a spinning 'birdlike' noise when hot . I think it may be one of three things- either the alternator, the oil pump or the fans. It's hard to pinpoint with the bonnet up and the engine running. Any ideas?

Thanks, Matt

On other cars I associate that noise with the auxilary drive belt

Is it a Serp or pre Serp engine?

Fans should not be running all the time so should be easy to identify if that's the source or not.

PAS?

Have you taken the aux (Serp of 'fan' ) belt off and checked the belt (as Qbee suggests) and all pulleys/components for movement/wobble.
Replacing the belt is not a bad thing to do as a precautionary item anyway (unless you are sure of its age?

Ok thanks that gives me an idea. No PAS and engine is a 500 from '94. It has had the Taraka upgrade

Is the Taraka within the 3 year warranty period still, has it done many miles? I too have a Taraka and had an imbalance that Dom sorted under warranty. I would give him a call for his advice....
