A strange one this...do any of you have any idea why 1st gear seems to have a huge flatspot and doesn'r really want to pull over 3000rpm whereas all other gears still seem to pull like a train? I am sort of hoping this may simply be alternator/battery related but just can't think of anything that could cause such an enormous flatspot in just one gear.

Did you find a solution to this? I have had motor bikes with this feature to kill power in the lower gears to prevent them from flipping but they use the gear indicator for the ecu to know what gear you are in. I doubt that anyone has done this to your car? Another thought I had was possibly a split in your intake elbow which would open up with the torque from the engine letting in large amounts of air that the flow meter hasn't seen. But I don't see why this wouldn't be a problem in other gears?
Hi, I've found no solution as of yet but Im in Germany and have registered the car on a seasonal license plate so its off the road every Dec, Jan and Feb.
I currently have the induction pipes off at the mo and am checking hoses and replacing all the clamps because I too thought that this may be an air leakage issue (I also have the alternator and heads off again to check - hell, I have the time :-)). I will see in March if thats done any good.

Is this regardless of how much throttle you give it?
I'm thinking if you give it a bootfull in first you're spinning the engine up quicker than you are in any of the other gears, ergo, it's sucking air in quicker than it is in the other gears. This being the case, if your inlet hose down in the nose area is going to collapse and starve the engine of air then this is when it would be most likely to happen...
Just a thought.....
