This may have been asked before.....

I'm in the process of getting the y piece out. What is the best way to separate the clamps without snapping them. I've undone the nut but they just don't want to came a part.

I just gave the clamp a few hits with a rubber mallet around the areas I could get to and it popped off. Just need to break the corrosion thats holding it in place.

As above while prising with an old screwdriver under the clamp faces.

Next you'll ask, "can the Y piece be removed without removing the exhaust system"? smile

No IMHO but others have!

Mine did, but I think the 500's had a flexible join from the Y-piece onto the exhaust, which makes removal possible? I heard of some having to drop the whole system.

Well, I've had 500 griffs and now my 450 Chim [both with flexi] and same as Peter, have never been able to get the 'y' piece out without exhaust removal. Am I missing something? ears

Taken the Y piece in and out a number of times and never needed to remove the exhaust.

+1

Removing the bolt clamping the exhaust to the engine block normally gives you enough flex to get it out, provided you have a flexi pipe of course.

There is no flexi on ours and don't have to remove the lot, its very tight but it does come off. You have to pull and push at every angle to miss the "removable" cross member, and a lot of cursing is required.

Is it worth some of you cutting 1/2in of the tail of the Y-piece to facilitate removal?

Now that i have fitted the Decat y piece, Do i need to do anything with the ECU Tune Resistor, as i have now removed the CAT from the system ?

If i'm talking a load of Bo$%^&@ks let me know and i'll go back to sleep for the rest of the winter.

If you have done as you should, and left the lambda sensors in and connected, then you do not need a tune resistor.
