A very nice car I'm sure but............

Is this because there is a shortage of good 500s chims?

In fact there are considerably more griefs then chims in Autotrader.

By their reckoning, mine must be worth at least £20K, I can go to bed happy knowing that for once I have made a sound investment smile.

I think it is because the tyre condition is excellent, make all the difference. Although, joking aside, I do like the dash :scratch chin:

To answer the original question; I hope not.
I hope to have someone post here saying; "Hi everyone, been lurking here for months now and I just bought a blue 500 from JA for £26k. What a bargain!"

The way I look at it, I paid £34.5k for mine, with 6k miles.
This one has 7k more miles than mine had when I bought it, but it's £7k cheaper.

Granted it is going to have to be pretty clean top to bottom, front to back to justify that price, but assuming it is; Looks like a bargain to me.

I would like to think it's only £3-4k to much.... It is very low mileage and looks to be in very good condition . A Griff of the same year/mileage/condition at Fernhursts would be £37k wink .

There are a lot of "dogs" on the market that look to be very polished cars on top but are rotten underneath.

The price does seem a bit steep, but to be fair the vendor does have the knack of finding the very best cars (IMHO)
Don't too many 5L Chim's were made, and this one is pretty low mileage
Having said all that, for £27K I'd be looking elsewhere; it's T350, Tuscan, Tamora money

^^^^ I'd go with this, looks a very nice car.
For thought, I bought my 450 'w' in 2004 for £20k with 6k miles on clock
[still only has 17k miles now getmecoat ]

I'm with Goaty on this one. Although if the tyres are original I'd replace them. Probably with R888's. Although I'd probably put 16's on the front first. The original brakes would look a bit weedy under the 16's, so probably have to go for 300mm rotors and four pots. Course, the 14CUX would have to go, along with the dizzy etc, and no doubt the cam won't have much life left in it so a Stealth would be on the cards there... Then there's the headlight conversion...

Yep, could be a very nice low mileage 500 for not much money scratchchin

Looks like standard dials /gauges for the year (someone who owns this year car may know better), but it looks right to me.

Interesting… must be one of those later things then. My 500 is a 97 and the dials are white. It looks nice with the steel dash.

You could specify colour coded dials as an option when new..... I had yellow on a Chim and seen purple on a Rolex Blue car.

I brought some wheels from a chap who had a 500 up for sale with less than 10K on the clock.

He had been offered £18K by a dealer which seems more realistic.

Is that not a digital mileometer though??

There were changes afoot in 97/98, and a few more through 99/00, like the gauges, seats, boot hinges.
So much depended on when you ordered, and (I believe) a certain amount of choice between the old a new styles when ordering. My late 97 is full facelift, yet others have 98s that have some of the previous styling features.

I saw a few factory cars with the steel dash, but it never worked for me.

The yellow dials looked really nice in some colour combinations.

Those were the days.
Pretty much anything some fool could dream up, TVR would put it in.
We certainly saw the good, the bad and the ugly, but most interestingly, there was choice.

clap Anything that "lifts" the value of any TVR. Looks about right, but still a long way short of Sagaris money - someone will have a bargain IMVHOthumbup

I get the feeling that the current Sag prices and the rise of classics in general have got the dealers all sweaty.

But I welcome this and perhaps it's the real level for the very best remaining. This car has done about a 1000 miles a year, is absolutely stock and perfect and is one of the last of the 500's. If someone was in the market for the best, it would be hard to find another one too easily.

And lets face it, the Sagaris was a lot more money new, is rarer still, does not have a (all 400/450 owners please excuse me) 'little sister' version to lower it's impact/rarity value.

I agree.
There have been a few low mileage 450s and 500s over the last 6-10 months advertised by dealers at the £19k-£26k mark, and private sales at £14k-£17k. It's good to see that they feel they can get that kind of money.
It's good for all owners of all models (and all engine sizes) for the values to be higher.

It's sometimes frightening to see the condition of the cars that are being written off these days.
Some only need a few thousand spending on them to return them to being roadworthy, yet they are broken for parts.

The dials are genuine as stated. The digital dials came in around the millenium - I've seen a late 99 with them and all the later cars.

Looks lovely, the '500 Chim is one of the rarest of the V8 cars (with the exception of the BV's) - I would say 20k-24k would be a fair price from a dealer, and an offer in that range may well be accepted.

Really nice cars are becoming harder to find. i don't mind spending less and making a project of it - my 500 was less than half the price, Others just want a mint car from the off and why not if you've got the cash?

Swallet - you’re bang on the button.

Dials came out in 99 and I had them in my first 99 500.

There’s a big difference with the 2000 onwards, mine is a 2001 500 mk3 and as Simon (Sardonics) will testify, there have been a lot of changes made for the better. These cars are so different to pre early 2000 models.

If I were on the market to get the very latest for that money I know which one I would choose. I wouldn’t be the one with the 2 missing pots, and yes I have driven them as well.
I’m surprised the Chimaera values have not gone up especially the good 500s.

They are the last true British iconic cars of our generation. Biased I know. smile
