Having a few problems with the boot...It will open using the key or the button under the dash for about 3 goes. After that I just get a clicking sound and have to get in by the "secret way" then its ok again for about another 3 goes. Is this a problem with the electrical solenoid, and where is that located.
Many thanks.

Yours sounds like a pre-facelift and I am not sure if the solenoid location is the same but on my facelift version it is behind the carpet to the left of the lock as you look at the rear of the car.

When I replaced mine, I had to pull the carpet off the fibreglass and the solenoid is held on a bracket which is held by two screws. Once the bracket is out is easy to remove and replace the solenoid with a two wire one from Maplins. I did find that one of the scres holding the bracket in place had been fibreglassed over but I used a mirror in the void to locate the screw before drilling a hole to access it.

I had the same problem with my boot not working on the first press and it was the solenoid that was weak. Replacing it has solved the problem.

Before replacing the solenoid which is cheap anyway, try just plugging the connector in and out a few times as it maybe just a bit HR ( high resistance) Its probably never been done since new.

I bought a couple on Ebay for around a fiver for the 2

Worth a try

Some WD40 on the mechanism and rock it back and forth sometimes helps. (makes the whole process easier)
