If its a decent allen key you might want to use a grinder to cut it down with. Otherwise you may blunt your saw! eek

You might get a nut splitter on there. That's what I resorted to.

Aren't they a bolt rather than an Allen key? I'm sure that I just used a spanner and the "thump it hard enough to really hurt the heel of your hand" method to get the carriers off when I did my discs...

They are cap heads as standard although my old chim has bolts.

I serviced my callipers the other evening and noticed the cap heads but just removed the centre section to clean and grease the sliders.

Why the talk of grips? A cut down Allen key and ring spanner should do the trick unless you have chewed up the cap?

Maybe not everyone has the facilities to cut a hardened Allen key?

This with a ring spanner instead of the socket adaptor?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/130686952461?lpid=8...

I had a bit of a problem getting to the carrier bolts on the front callipers and bits like these sorted it fine (but I think I had to use a long bit rather than a short bit)

I found inserting the "long" end of the allen key into the cap head from the other side of the hub carrier just cleared the hub carrier, then use a ring spanner as leverage on the "short" end to crack the screw/bolt.

Adjustable spaner on the bit
Applied some gentle force and the bit snaped

OK, mole grips and a 2 foot extension bar then.
Give me a point to stand and I'll move the earth as they say.
