Not happy. Car is still in slow restoration and as I dont have a garage my car is on the drive at the side of the house on axle stands as ive sent the wheels off for refurb. Just finished recolouring/re proofing the roof with Renovo so looking good. Just been out to the car and low and behold a roof slate has blown off the house in last nights gales and gone straight through the back window, luckily no body work damage as the slates are really heavy concrete jobs which would have made a mess of the bodywork...Now looking to get this repaired, any ideas chaps? The rip is 2 inch long right in the centre. The slate then bounced off missing the car. Am I looking at a new rear window? do I have to replace the whole roof?

you'll be able to just get the window replaced, loads of threads on here about it. at least it was just the window, could have put a hole in the boot!

just a new rear screen required there then . Should be fitted inless than a day . back portion of roof will have to come off, so you could get that done yourself and take the hood into the trimmers using your daily drive.

At least its not a complete new roof thank goodness but I guess it's still not going to be a cheap repair. I'm in the Berkshire area...any ideas on a local trimmer?

There has been some discussion on here whether the rear screen is covered on your windscreen insurance, I don't know if they are or not or if it depends on your insurer, but may be worth an enquiry. Im pleased its only that and not the boot or wing or even the bonnet and damaging engine parts.

There is a chap in Early. He did mine and carries out a lot of work for local specialists.

Wot he said. Got mine replaced under insurance when I was with Mannings.

Now with Adria Flux and need to test their policy as I have some stitching gone.

You are very lucky really with where it landed! yikes

Dave the Trimmer in MK

Availability might be an issue though. He seems to be busy as hell these days with
TVR trimmings...

Gary, can't help any more than already been offered on the trimming side but I am about to embark on major rebuild myself so happy to share experiences, tools, muscle etc. (if you can swallow your pride and natural prejudices and deal with a Griff owner....) as I'm in Pangbourne. if interested, have a look at my thread on the Griff pages.

Sorry about the rear screen but as said elsewhere, it could have been a lot worse. Apart from that, have a good Christmas, Pete

Well that is a small world and yes it is strange. It may be partly to do with the fact that I am abroad half the time (I'm in Kazakhstan right now - no wind and rain but it is snowing heavily) but back for 6 weeks of glorious Griff ripping apart on the 27th December, once I've had a late Christmas with the wife and kids.

Happy to get together and just for your info I do have a 2-post lift if you ever need to get underneath you Chim. Have a good one, I'm off to our special(?) Christmas Eve dinner in a mo as we are 5 hours ahead. Pete

Fellas a big thanks for the responses. I will give those trimmers a bell to find out the cost of replacement. I am with Mannings so that was a good call on insurance as long as I dont loose my no claims. This will be done after Christmas now as I'm away. I will keep this link updated with best route I take. Pete thanks for the offer I would like to take you up on that, keep my posted on what jobs your undertaking.
