I've taken mine on a nice long runway (location not disclosed!!), so I bet I have a higher speed than any 'track' speeds

Interesting.
On a private road in W. Sussex/Hampshire border I saw an indicated 150ish roof down. Under no illusions the speedo is way out so perhaps 135/140?
If it wasn't for those pesky kids.

I remember the day I picked up my 4.3 Chimaera, I was a mere whippersnapper @ 24 years old. Of course, I found somewhere to 'see what it could do'. Indicated 165mph with the roof down - my mate (who was in the passenger seat) was suitably impressed

My 4 Litre Chimaera did 158 racing my brother in his Cerbera once! I know the speed was accurate because my Origin B2 said so....

I didn't clock the top speed, but mine's green, so it must be the fastest

Around about the 150mph mark in the company of a straining VW Golf VR6 4motion. Shall not say where we did that though! = = =

I bottled it at an indicated 145mph last year and she was still pulling strongly.

Don,t forget to knock off 10-15mph at the top end,had a gps scamera detector with speedo fitted and it read that far out.
I heard the Griffs were factory 20mph out so there owners thought they had a faster car.

Would that be the day you hit 163mph at Vmax4- the one with the monumental tail wind?

At Vmax6, upto 15mph was lobbed off the speeds of the same cars from Vmax4. GavinR didn't beat 145 even with the roof up!

Yeah there was a 'slight' tailwind!! To be fair though I had been there before with Don Palmer and got similar readouts on the speedo, just not verified at the time. And that board definitely said 164!! Dunno why it got changed to 1 less? Who cares though, had a great time! Shame I missed the last VMAX a few weeks back really but planning some mods so will go back if/when I've had them done.

Cheers - Chris

With my broken Griff (airflow meter) I got 150MPH, roof down, verified at VMAX6.
My speedo was around showing 160ish.

Thats makes the comparison with Paineys when using Gazboys estimations with the headwind about right.

Dusty I saw your top speed on the VMax forum and thought they're must have been a headwind or something. Also from what Gazboy has said about the 420SEAC, there's a big difference between roof on or off. What did you think of the VMax event though?

Good fun event. I had car problems on the way up there. Felt like a constant headwind all the time when pressing on. The revs were building up really slow.
Called my garage the next day and found it could be water in the air flow meter since I'd driven home through floods the previous weekend.

After the airflow meter had been in the airing cupboard for 3 days it was ok again. Still got some probs with lumpy revs at times though but that has been there for quite a while. Perhaps AFM is on its way out? Any ideas?

Anyway, did a roof on run at 144 and got pissed off because car was not running right. So I took the roof off and just did a few runs for the fun of it. I'd given up looking at the displays and spent more time making faces at the other drivers! Somehow I got a 150
Had more fun on the corners really and prefer track days to this. I'll probably do another when the car is running right though.

I have seen the speedo at over 165 with the roof down before. I don't know how much difference tyres make but it felt stable at that speed compared to what others say.

At vmax I saw a little over 160MPH on the speed so estimate that its about 12 MPH out.

The last owner had a GPS device which showed 88 at 100 so perhaps my speedo error is quite linear.

An indicated 155mph in my Standard 1993 4.0. I was most happy with that
