Just had a message left from Lloyds ... turns out I have two cylinders that are being mahoosively overfuelled - like to the extent that fuel is just p*ss*ng straight in.

Need to call them back to make sure but it's looking like either a couple of failed injectors that are simply sticking open for too long or a failed injector driver from the ECU ... either way it's looking at being about £400 (all in, including new plugs) as a fix which is a bloody relief!

Are you getting the set of injectors serviced and matched?

Good news anyway.

After talking to the guys it seems that it's a failed injector driver on the ECU rather than a couple of failed injectors ... being sorted now. biggrin

CANEMS - as far as I know it's being fixed for free by the makers.

I lost a plug lead the other weekend and the theory is that when that happened it spiked the ECU and took out the injector driver ... hopefully all the extra fuel going through won't have killed the main cat but if it has then that's the excuse to get it removed.

Good luck, I know it's a PITA but could've been worse. Also, good on 'em for the repair to ECU.

Yeah - a damn sight better than a new motor!

Thanks for the offer - most kind - but I was actually going to buy a set of injectors from a guy over in Gloucester earlier last year but obviously situations transpired to screw all that. I don't even have his email addy (my PC went down last summer) so I don't know whether he still has them...

Yeah - could have been much worse! I was bricking myself that I was going to wipe out my savings replacing a knackered engine! hehe

Apparently they compression tested it though and they're all consistent which sounds like the block and heads have survived intact ...

I did wonder how long it would be til someone turned up saying "I'm so glad that I went with <insert name here> instead"...

You're absolutely right Daz ... the injector drivers never fail on an Emerald.

Out of interest how do you get a plug lead near the ecu to spike the injector driver????

ecu in car ~ injector wiring insulated ~ plug leads not really near any of that?

No idea ... it may well be that the two events were unrelated but I had a couple of plug leads that had baked hard and fractured and the misfire started that same evening.

I know that some coilpacks can be damaged by running them "open circuit" so I did wonder whether initially whether I might have fried a coil pack output. My plug leads run under the inlet manifold and then out to the plugs so I guess it could be that one of the leads that fractured arc'd over to the injector wiring as a closest point to ground - they were pretty crumbly?

Maybe Phil flashed at them?.......yikes

Good news fella. When the bug takes you, (use some of what's left from the celebration party to) get a Clive Y piece to replace the main pussy. You know you want to.

So ultimately, had you left your engine as TVR delivered it; none of this would have happened?
(aside from fried HT leads possibly)
