Hi boys,

I'm wanting to clean my engine bay this week. Anyone care to share any good methods?

I was just going to hit it with some spray then rinse with a hose. Bagging up the altenator and coil and avoiding blasting plugs, throttle pot, anything else obviously electrical.

Anything I'm missing? Would you ever use a pressure washer on a Rover V8.

Just ordered an induction kit from ACT so I'm wanting to get it looking presentable!

Thanks,

Alex

Good old washing up liquid and nigh on boiling water in a bucket and clean water in another, two spunges and off you go. Carefully does it but I get to most areas and just rinse off.

As soon as I'm finished I start her up until warm then get some clean dry rags and dry everything.

Good old solvel or another metal polish and give all the metal a good going over.

It takes hrs to do it properly, its the washing liquid that breaks down any greasy areas,

The good thing is after that its easy to keep it looking sweet with little effort.

Cheers Alun, sounds good so I'll give that a go! She's just about to celebrate her 21st birthday and looks like the engine bay has never been cleaned!

No worries, I avoid using power washers but if your carefull its ok, especially around the bloc.
21 today. Aaaaarrrr she just come of age then, does that make her officially a classic, 20 years isn't it?
A pair of gloves helps save your hands from bleeding for days afterwards, lol.

Give it some its really rewarding.

I've found turpentine substitute & blue paper / rag good for heavy oil deposits of the chassis, better than usual degreasers. Definitely agree with Alun on the solvol for ally, stainless etc., with a drill mounted mop if possible.

I used an engine degreasing agent and sprayer...washed off gently with low pressure hose...takes ages but worth it
