So traction control seems to polarise people - its either the work of the devil and not keeping with TVR - or it is a safety net on wet roads and also make the car much faster point to point.

I am semi-thinking that it would on the road let me use it more time of the year - and on the track let me go faster...

Thoughts?

Do you need it on a little 4l ? if you had something like a 450hp LS I could understand it ..smokin

I don't have it on the beast, but do have it on the 350z. All I can say is I doubt I will make you go faster but it should stop you getting bent out of shape, when mine kicks in it feels like I've stalled it for the length of time the wheels are spinning . Quite unnerving to be honest, when It first engaged I thought I had broken something

ABS really is a wonder, that's a fairly easy retrofit as I understand it and I suppose is standard with a traction control upgrade.

This Sunday I was thinking of taking a mate out for a spin, but on the way to the greasy spoon in my VRS around 8am I hit some nasty ice on a 100 degree tight corner and although I now feel myself pausing for a moment... well a split moment - where I realign my brain as to what car I am in - It hit the brakes hard and slowly steered through. I an honestly say that in the Chim I would have ended up in the ditch.

Big question is though, since I've done 50k in the VRS, it has winter tyres on and I know it impeccably, would I have approached this corner at the speed I was doing in the Chim ? Highly doubtful. But it's worth bearing in mind that the roads can look good this time of year - and the gritters havn't done anything round here yet and so very inviting for a top-off blast - it only takes a shaded corner to stay slippery once...

I reckon the new ones will have ABS, but perhaps not full traction control. I have done some super fun fish-tailing recently, not deliberately but it's very easy early AM or late PM when changing to second or third, traction control would kind of ruin that I think.

Nick and others, having got over the shock of such talk, It felt like the day when I heard F1 would have traction control, shocking.

I'm dead against it but then I like sliding, having thought about it, you chaps are packing such power the idea of snap oversteer off a turn at humungous speed is a bit much!

You get to a point when the power overloads what you can assess, it is a critical moment and a computer will def do a better job.
Rr
The need for speed must be very strong and is compelling.

There's more cause and maybe good reason for using driver aids on the roads as are cars are like ducks out of water on slippery bumpy roads!

So contrary to my blowing off there's very good reason to have these aids and if your after being really competetive I suppose you have to have them to stand a chance.

I'm against it in principal yet if it made me win I'd have it in a flash,
Always a very good idea for road use so I must be broadly in favour if it!??!

If its just fun you want oh and maybe a new rear quarter every now and then, slide baby slide.
I'm well awear its the slowest way round but feck its like being on top of Everest controlling a Tvr on the edge.
Can't beat it. Its a macho thing I'm sure!!!???

Anyone who has truly got out of shape [and worse] because of snap oversteer losing the back end will think it's a good idea. I think it's a good idea.

Glad someone does!

Anyway I have decided to go ahead with the Race Logic setup - we need to get trigger wheels from Hi-Tech and fit brackets for sensors etc and then some interesting challenges to Wire into the current Emerald setup.

Hmmm, traction control scratchchin

I spose it's a useful aid for those who's driving skills are questionable or are unsure of their own abilities... whistle

Personally I prefer my thrills raw and undiluted.

Each to their own though wink

Lessons in car control might be an even better idea wink

This thread raises another issue to me, does the car get to a point where it just can't handle such power inevitably leading to the need for traction control!

I suppose it depends why you want traction control.
Roads yes but a race circuit ,,,,,,, don't most drivers use a bit of power over steer in one corner to sling shot through another!
Do you not use the throttle to adjust the position of the car etc etc.
if you are going through a turn on the edge and you get a little rear end slide, won't traction control sort of upset the balance and possibly cause the rear to actually slide worse because the dip in the nose attitude lightens the rear even more.

Or is it because your after nailing the gas pedal off the apex and want more security, better transition onto the straights etc !

I'm quite sure if you get traction control to work with a deft ability then its going to be faster but if you can't and it acts abruptly etc won't that slow you down if your not confident in what's about to happen.

Now I'm going off one one but
If you go and learn to drive with a race drivor he'll get you hovering your left ft on the brake as you enter corners, that and throttle control should allow you to do most of what traction control can do. What's wrong with squeezing the brake pedal as your on the gas to control the initial power oversteer onto a straight.
I'm having a laugh as I'm sure your all top drivers and just want to go quicker but I've never found a car with traction control is anything other than a hindrance but then the car didnt have huge torque figures.
I can imagine how vague it must feel when the wheels are being driven into the ground with so much power, really hard to keep up with it and sence the inevitable wheel spin.

Its actually a very interesting subject because your getting into the tech versus the driver,
A good driver might make mistakes but I'd bet he's still quicker than with traction control.

Its down to how good the system works really.

The system we are goong to fit probably to both the chim and the cerb is the racelogic offering the unit is very cutting edge firstly it uses an injector clipping cycle to control the power i.e. when slip is detcted the next injector signal is clipped and in a predetermind secuence futher injectors are clipped to reduce power as required this is fundamentally different to oem units which using electronic throttle valves simply reduce the butterfly opening which although fairly quick is no where near as quick or precise, secondly the unit is infinitly programmable via a dash mounted contol for wheel
slip from virtually nothing abviously some slip is required to sense to 20percent or off completely, so the folk who like drifting me included to some extent can do so but in the knowledge the wheels are not going to light up and hello we are spining so as they say time will tell and the proof of the pudding and all that but if we can keep the car on the island seems to me the way to go.

Regretfully, I find myself in agreement with the Griff person known as smartypants wink

My last Beemer had TC, and it would cut power if I was hooning it through an empty roundabout, upsetting the balance of the car, changing the grip levels between wheels, resulting in a generally unpleasant and on occasion un-nerving experience.... Dunno if that's what it was supposed to do but I wasn't impressed....
