Hi all, I need to think about changing my gauges as the tachometer is bouncing around like a 13 year old after 4 tubes of smarties (This has been exaggerated after fitting the Canems engine management system) My question is has anyone changed all guages for a different make and if so what needed to change (wiring, sensors etc..) If anyone has any pictures that would help, all the better!

Many thanks.

Not swapped gauges but have heard of a "fix" for the bouncy tacho needle.

You supposedly run the tacho feed wire through the coil of a "standard" relay which cures the problem, this would be cheaper than a full gauge swap !

Depending on the ecu, the easiest is let speedy cable modify the tachometer , I had the same problem until it was modified

My tacho needle bounces more since I went Canems, I've heard about the relay fix but haven't tried it so I've no idea if it's just a myth or not?

I've also heard tale the solution is to add a 0.68uF 400V capacitor in series between the negative coil side and the electronic tach so in effect the rev counter wire is interrupted by the capacitor.

Again, I've not tried this.

It's a common problem & various manufactures in the States offer their own little box of tricks to solve it, my guess is the cheaper DIY solution will be buried somewhere on a MegaSquirt forum as these guys seem very resourceful and will have encountered the same issue.

When I get time I'll have a play with the capacitor idea as this seems like the most logical solution to me, but if anyone has a proven definitive solution perhaps they would be kind enough to share with the group?

Dave.

Double hehehehe Piss taker biggrin on a more serious note I needed a digital (EDIS ign) to analogue signal converter to drive my tacho and it's rock solid wink

Interesting Simon, pish taking aside I had a feeling the answer needn't necessarily involve Speedy Cables rolleyes

I expect others would be interested in your solution there, if you'd like to share the detail I'm sure it'll be welcomed.

Cheers, Dave.

I had mine converted by speedy cables, they supplied a pull up wire with it so it was compatable with my ECU, then the ECU settings needed adjusting so it had the correct pulse going to the guage

Not sure if its 12v but the pull up wire boosts the 5v ECU signal

I was told the cerbs have the same problem because they get less than 12volts .Maybe this is the problem !
