Hi All,

After much good advice from this forum, finally got round to sorting the oil pressure sender... and for a measly £13.00 inc postage! Much better than the ridiculous prices on TVR specialists.

Took me about 30 minutes including making up a earth connection and now working perfectly, and steady as a rock!

If you need one, see

Unscrew the old, screw in the new, make a small lead to the main Earth connection (Behind Off side wheel) easy peasy!

I have gone for the £28 one
And will be testing it this week in the midle of making a test plug
Screws in to block then has a Take off for the new sender and one for a mechanical gauge
I can then run it up and see how good / bad it is

I have a similar one with separate earth which cost less than a tenner. Mine is identical to Volvo type from mid 90s and not worried about exaggerated readings as independent gauge check showed within 5psi of each other. My old unit showed about 12 psi hot at idle and about 30 psi hot at 3k rpm ( no engine probs apparent and still on original cam at 117k miles!!). This one shows 35psi at idle hot and a fraction under 60psi at 3k rpm hot (much more realistic and as expected). Cheap does not necessarily mean rubbish but does show how some 'specialists' rip people off.(I've been in the motor trade since 1969) I would love to see their buy in prices for some items! NB if the gauge pressure does not move something is wrong, so check with a separate gauge. (sorry not teaching you to suck eggs).

Did you calibrate or test this item? I did, and I suspect it is the same one that I tested here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

(see page 4 for my graph)

You will be able to see how inaccurate it is and work out approximately what oil pressure you really have.

Unless you do something like this fitting a new sender unit is pointless, just having a needle that gives you a warm feeling is almost as bad as having no gauge and just relying upon the pressure switch to give you a warning light if the pressure falls below 7psi.
