In the last few weeks I've found myself looking at Cerbera's?
Why?
Its got to be the rain!
Is this a winter trend with Chimeara owners as I don't think I'm the only Chim owner looking right now.
I have to confess that the Cerbera was the car that really caught my eye many moons ago.

I posted a novice type thread up on the Cerbera forum and had some good replies,
This has been a worthwhile exercise as I've come to the conclusion Chimeara or Cerbera there both brilliant in there own way and where one is better, then the other is better somewhere else!

Neck and neck overall, but a Chimeara has a soft top so that is such a bonus.

I always thought the Chim a bit below the Cerb but its not!

How do others feel about it, I'm pleasantly surprised how well the Chimeara stack up.

I have looked at a Cerb a couple of months ago - and lucky enough to have been in a friends of mine.
I have the 500 Chim and off the line if beats him hands down but side by side from 50mph upwards ( we stop at 70 of course on the M40 ) he pulls away.
Cerb is a lovely car to drive also - but the soft top on my car would be hard to give up !
Not sure about the costs to run a Cerb though ?!?

I had both (kind of)

As you say, different cars with different attributes.

Overall though, a sports car MUST be able to go topless.

Ive never driven a Cerbera,,, its time I did, you can't compare until you've driven good examples of both I suppose!

Other than the driving after looking at the pros and cons I couldn't come up with a conclusive answer. There both bloody great.

I've been thinking the old rover V8 is a bit behind, which it is but not so much that it really matters!

I've been in a quandary over this for awhile but after having a look I'm more satisfied with My Chimeara than I thought.

I've thought about getting a banger Cerb, LS etc and create a fkoff track car but that requires selling the silver so I'll just have to wait and enjoy the Chim instead, lol.

I've hankered after a 4.5 Cerb for some time now, but lack of space has prevented me from jumping in... although there have been a few occasions when the CabSav and fleabay have almost won... finger hovering over the enter key and the other hand holding it back biggrin

Will have to wait until I've finished the garage renovation now, both time and money will be at a premium for the forseeable future........

Oh, and it has to be a red one. With big shiney wheels and a PH smiley on the back smile

Hankering, that's probably just it, the bloody dash does it for me!
I can't believe over a few years the Cerb won't cost more to run but as long as you buy a good un its not going to be vastly different!

For me to do it properly I'm 2 or even 3 years away form being finantually stable and the prices will have jumped!

The truth is I can't choose between them so as I have a bang on Chimeara what do I need a long truck lying around for. Lol

New property Chilli, now your talking,,,, I'm gritting my teeth for awhile but soon as I've cleared some debt ,,,,,,,,,,, massive garage tiny house, I'm done!

As said on your other thread, both great cars but I fancied a change after 3 years with the chim.

I put it on the market and I was going for a Tvr again , either a mk1 Tuscan or a cerb. I ended up doing a deal with a local ph'er and we had swaped cars!

Cerb was my boy hood dream car after seeing the clarkson shoot out video and a local chap had one that would rumble around the town!

At first I found it hard to bond with, the low down torque of the rv8 was something I got used to and the lack of soft top was getting to me a bit, and I missed the rv8 noise.

After a summer and a track day done my mind set changed I found the cerb better to live with in ways. The longer wheel base and track means it is very stable at any speed, I have far more confidence in the wet and damp, when pressing on it will under steer before over steer, a little warning that you are pushing your luck. Things I found the chim would not do, the riffle fire on over run on the Ajp is amazing what it lacks in raw sound like the rv8 it makes up with over run fun on command .

Running costs, I like to fettle so I have replaced most things on my cerb for new or upgraded, it stands me a fortune now! A keeper as I am settled its the sports car for me. Over all cerbs will cost about double of a chim to keep in good order, clutch's, are expensive, and keeping on top of a ajp is costly and labour intensive.

Fun factor they are much the same I had a mk1 Tuscan as well last summer while my cerb was in bits. They all have little characters, but in essence all provide as much fun as each other,

I do not miss the convertible aspect any more, I had the roof of the Tuscan a handfull of times last summer.

I think the cerb build quality is good as well ( for a Tvr) the way everything feels is just right. The free reving engine of a ajp or sp6 is very intoxicating.

Get a shot in one and see if its for you, people say a chim is "starter" tvr , what rubbish it takes far more skill to push a chim hard over a cerb.

I bought my Chim, my first TVR last year.

Without a shadow of a doubt a Cerbera is what I wanted but several things put me off:

The RV8 engine on the Chim is a tried and tested engine and (supposedly) cheap to fix.
All consumable are from other cars so again cheap.
I consider the RV8 engines cars as a 'lighter' option into the world of performance cars unlike an AJP engines car.

Now I have my Chimaera, I love it. I think I'll have it a long time yet as I will not get my money back on what I've updated.

Having said that, if I got a reasonable price and a Cerb came along......

Harley Pilot, that's a very nice offer cheers, I've a sister in North Wales whom I promised a trip up in the summer, if I've still got the itch we'll have to have a coffee and a blast in each others cars.
Yours looks a cracker by the way.

I wanted a Cerbera but needed to get the soft topped, RV8 burbling Chimaera out of my system first. My budget certainly bought a nicer Chimaera than Cerbera. I wouldn't rule one out one day and I'd like to have a go in one, but when I leave the Chimaera, I'll probably leave the marque. Not going anywhere for now though. smile

Its a marvellous place to drive Tvr's that's a fact.
I'm some way off taking on a Cerbera but never say never!
I'd buy a wreck and do it up, spend 20k and have a Cerbera for 20 years after, dirt cheap!
Keep the Chim that's going nowhere!

This thread was to see if there was other Chim owners who hate the rain and somehow think a Cerb might offer a better option but after thinking aloud I actually just have to seal my roof properly!

For all the thrills and obvious speed the higher revs offer I'm a bit of a nut for low revving torqie thumpers so I should just lavish the old V8 instead.

I've done about 5 years worth of driving in two years 16,000 miles, 90% of that was at burbling speeds so that tells story in itself.

Yep I'm not fast enough for a Cerb. Lol lol lol

My roof doesn't leak a drop, but I do get an unsatisfactory amount of wind rustle from around the windows, which I will be getting Matt Smith to take a look at. I have tried adjusting the targa panel every which way, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Good job that I mainly bought the car to use with the roof in the boot! driving

I've been getting water Behind the seats and I'm starting to suspect its from around the base of the rear window. Funny how these cars are,,,,, mines quiet no real buffeting!
Since I've had it off the road and dried everything out I'm not happy about getting it wet again so I'll contact the chap who replaced the roof for me and see what he thinks, Adrian from Central Tvr, he's bound to take 5 mins and it'll be fine!

I've had a 1967 MGB roadster, that's what you call leaks!
I used to drive it to Manchester on a Monday morning at 4am during winter, I'm sure my body temp used to get dangerously low!

I dressed like a motorbike rider in the end, blankets the lot.
Heater, the drafts out weighed that by miles!

Great days because Friday afternoon I'd drive the 100 miles home again, roof off, the smiles and thumbs up used to make my week.
Its got to be a good idea to get someone who really knows how to seal these cars to do it but make sure you watch for future adjustments!

mine had this problem when I had it Re-roofed. The seal doesn't quiet meet the window glass. I bought another spacer bar that sits under the rail that holds the rubber seal. Much better now on both sides. Now all i can hear is the roll bar squeaking!

on the topic of Cerbs . God I would love a 4.5. Went for the chim due to mechanical simplicity and running costs and lower initial outlay.

Is the roll bar touching the underside of the hoop?

That's what makes mine squeak occasionally.
