Dont know what you are buying

Had mine approx 9yrs.
Everything replaced or rebuilt including powder coated chassis.
I was in a 500 the other day which looked mint with service history etc.
Owner thought she sounded and ran great,me,it ran and sounded like a bag of spanners that needed some money mechanically throwing at it,he admited it neeeded and new cam but he lives with it.
All shocks were totally rusted and the powdercoated was peeling off in places, and it sold for £10,000.
It just made mine feel like a Rolls Royce which i have found when testing other cars.
Point is, would love to change at some point possibly, but dont think i would ever get the same confident satisfaction that all is fine,no rattles, rust, repairs and runs as smooth as silk without spending another small fortune!
Had the Griff 3 months last summer, but was paranoid that something may go wrong with it,as you all know you start hearing things because you dont want things to break or go wrong, so sold it.
How you guys swop and change i dont know, would never bloody sleep

On my 52nd car this year in 31 years of driving. Some good ones, some shockers. Rose -tinted spectacles on some cars, had a good hard look on others, it didn't seem to make much difference. I couldn't list them all so just put down some on my profile. I was terrified of cars going 'bang' when younger (the fear being mostly financial) but now I just see it as a possible hazard.
Although (famous last words), I've never had an engine actually go bang. All but though, Dropped a valve with clouds of smoke (Peugeot 309), but it kept going. Cooked the engine and blew the head gasket (405 TD) but the only issue with my last TVR when I had one previously in 2002/3 was zero oil pressure. RAC brought me home and I discovered the sender lead had just fallen off.
Even then, the breakdown companies didn't want to lift the bonnet on anything 'exotic.'

Been blessed with mine, its a 2000 450 with a mint original chassis, runs like a dream and goes like s
t of a shovel must have been really looked after in a previous life but its a real pearler few people have driven it and all say how tight and sharp it is, thought about going to a T car at some point but don't think I would be find something to match this

You'd need to buy off a mirror image of yourself with the same standards....difficult!!!
Arrr I've got you now!
Well you know how one should look, Sheel had a Westie, knows what he's looking at! Best original chassis I've seen,
I've had mine two years and she's only just letting me be intermate with her.
It seems there's two types, those who spend and thrash and those who thrash and sell on!
One mans view of a good car is another mans pupp!
These resent price rises, I'm glad I got mine a few years ago,
I think sell,,,,,, then think I'd need to rob a bank to get back into ownership!
Never sell until your eyes don't work.
Just think in 20 years when cars won't have steering wheels and wheel spin is a far cry from the past, we'll own a Tvr, envy of the world.
Do I exaggerate or am I on the money.
I was speaking to a 20 something lad earlier, Moto cross rider. Top boy, he asked me a few questions and it was like me talking to an E type owner at his age. All a quiver and mad excitement in his eyes, he loves the car and to him it really is a dream car.
The world will slowly catch up with us!

You got the bargain of the century Sheel old boy!
Its got to be 18 grands worth.
Looks like its been in a warm showroom all its life, never sat in look but its actually done a fare few miles if I remember correctly,
Have you had the Plenom off Rich, there's something going on under there!!!
It seemed really sharpe on the gas pedal.Mine seems to hesitate a fraction then torque insanity! Totally different with a de cat pipe, I'm deaf but frightened again.
10,500 that's a steel Sheel!! Oh well I do try!

Im sure a lot of Petrolheads have been burnt over the years. I had an E39 M5 that was a money pit, same with a 968CS that had cams, head gasket, clutch & flywheel and other bits done during the 3 years I had it. Should never have sold it but needed the money
My Chimaera has been brilliant during the 18months Ive had it and even though we are in debt up to our eyeballs due to two floods at our home I ain't bloody selling it
It keeps me sane.

It keeps me sane. Starmist I feel for you, I nearly went bust last year but still wouldn't sell the car, now things have settled a little I'm so glad I never wavered!
Surely the weather will turn and you can recover, its terrible to see people's homes flooded.
Keep a positive attitude and the car will give you some peace as you come through.
Goodluck.

Well all advice says don't buy the first one you see and test drive plenty before you make your mind up...but I'd be willing to bet that less than 50% do this. They are just too compelling when you see/drive them. You gotta have it.
I bought both mine within half an hour of seeing them and both were brilliant.
When selling I had a bloke who phoned all previous owners, garages etc over a 2 week period (all positive vibes) then still wanted to take the car 100 miles for his garage to check it out. I said fine if he wanted to come to my place to check it out otherwise no. So no deal.
Bloke who bought it did so in 5 minutes. And it was a great car. So the first bloke missed out by being too picky.
But you win some, you lose some I guess.

Its funny, when I started looking for a Tvr I acted like everyone was about to shaft me, zero trust didn't believe a word they said. Then set my eyes on my baby, fell in love and just wanted to hand the money over and go. I didn't want to hear a word the guy said just get in it get out of there and put it in my name before someone woke me up!!! . Lol.
What a dick, I've paid for that I can tell you!
I'm happy though
I said a Tvr could be reliable and peeps laughed at me, who's laughing now!

Never understood that... if first one is a good 'un it'll be long gone by the time you've looked at others, realised it and decided to go back ?I've bought 2 TVRs. The first was a chim 400 bought from a dodgy dealer who had just bought it from a repo man for £3K, sold it to me for £14K and did not clear the outstanding debt! I only found out 2 years later when I tried to sell it and couldn't. I had to get the Motor trade Association onto him to get him to clear the debt.
My current one is a chim 500 from a scrapyard. It is a cat D write off, and I spent £4K on the repairs and respray. It is low mileage (26K miles) and seems to be in good reliable nick, but I've only had it for 6 months so far.
