So I've got my head around the different Tvr engines, the t 5 box, diff etc, suspension, big brakes,

An LS conversion

What's the most powerful engine. What gearbox/ diff/ drive shafts,
What to do to chassis, it warps under an RV8.
Ecu/air induction/electrics and anything else anyone and everyone can think of.

The last point is the cost.
Parts including new engine
Fabrication of bespoke bits and bobs,
Installation and getting set up and running
Can it really do 200 mph in a Chim without doing a wheelie and blowing you out.
What figures can be expected,

I'm just dreaming of Alex's car and I've seem Brummie's, two words (out there)

What about a flat bottom, anyone tyres it.

Many questions and feel free to say what you like, its just contemplation.

Has someone put one in a chimp yet.

Thanks All

Experiences so far from people who did the swap (Jon Ellison's springs to mind) indicate you'd be better off buying a cheapish Cerb and start from there, you can buy Charlie (Vixpy 1)'s for barely more than the difference in conversion cost between the two... and the Cerb is a lot better suited to extreme hp (longer wheelbase, stiffer chassis, probably a tad more stable aerodynamically). That, or start with the Sportmotive chassis that is engineered to harness the LS from the start, although I can't tell you how well it's engineered/built as I've never been anywhere close to one. smile

Of course, anything can be done if you want it badly enough... I'm just not sure whether the end result would justify the expense in terms of what else you could have at the sort of money you'd end up spending if it's to be done properly.

Tiz funny but for a similar cost you could probably buy an ls equipped vette such as a C5.

So you buy a tired Cerb for 8k spend 22,000 and off you go at freaking 200 mph.

Seriously what kind of revs will a crate LS reach, I should be researching the engines really.

And, in doing so, save another TVR from butchery.

You need to turn around 7500rpm with a 3.08 diff, forget the standard box (t5) it will lunch itself with the torque, beware of who you take advice from, I will gladly talk of my successes and failures over the phone, as it's not my aim to make money from you, like to sell you some brake pads though! smile

And one I made earlier, fanbloodytastic!

Thanks Brummie I've bookmarked your details
I'll bell you.
Do you use those pads on the Cerb if so then maybe we should all be using them. Lol.

I'm just sort of thinking how I will feel in a few years time and those engines are bullet proof!

What might be butchery to some...... Is an upgrade to otherssmile

My car could have an RV8 chucked back in it at anytime..... As the chassis is completely standard...

We are doing this right now (the royal we meaning Engineer1949 doing all the actual work!) - we already purchased a lovely 4.2 Cerb for less than £10k (engine will later be sold - to pay partly for the LS)

we have opted for -

  • Chevy LS3 alloy crate engine converted to an HO version with aftermarket items.
  • GM LS3/L92 alloy cylinder heads with aftermarket beehive springs. Aftermarket roller-cam, GM roller lifters.
  • GM LS3 intake manifold.
  • GM OEM pulleys to suit water pump and power steering.
  • GM water pump, high output alternator and power steering pump. GM LS3 Camaro oil pan.
  • GM oil pump and pick-up.
  • GM roller timing set.
  • Tremec TKO600 transmission with Quick-time bell housing.
  • Ram SFI steel flywheel with 12” HD single disc clutch assembly.
  • GM OEM internal hydraulic slave system.
The cam is being custom ground to give us lots of BHP (around 500bhp) and lower Torque, will be a little lump at low rev's (a bit like AJP - to keep it in-keeping) but buckets loads of mid+high end.

Our pads are used by m-sport, rally art, Citroen WRC, plus Danny win, and mike it's all yellow in the tvr world, yes of course I use em! Feel free to ring me in engine and box/diff choices as I have used a few.

Thanks Quinny that's cleared up another question.
I can't tell you how glorious that looks.
Come on I'm like a dog on heat

Don't miss understand me numbers don't really matter to me if I can't apply them but which LS
What gearbox, how, why and what does it feel like. Be honest does it want to snap or have you got a role cage fitted.

Does the car balance feel the same, have you had to weight it much! Blar blar, I want at least a books worth of excitement, lol.
My Chim engine is a Rover, not Tvr so I feel less guilty for changing it, Tvr would have had one in, in a flash.

Ok its not British but the jag engine is a massive task, and the Rover is really a Buick so I'm open to the idea.

I just want to stay ahead of the croud well down the road without having to re build every few years!

Its the wine talking and I like a good debate, I'm often horrified by these ideas but the future has to be considered!

There can't be a man on earth who's not impressed by that flaming engine bay, that still looks like engine art to me.

Nick that's hit the nail!
The futures here!

This handling thing,,,,,, most tracks are short and tight, can't you hussle a little Chim through the corners better than a Cerb or does that extra length help on the brakes and getting the power back on or is it a bit of a myth.

Which car would set a faster lap time.
LS Cerb
LS Chim

Is the Cerb heavier and by exactly how much, I have a thing about weight!

I don't expect answers just thinking aloud!

I'm bush whacked but thanks for bringing some light onto a windy old evening.

Long live Tvr and you bonkers inventors , best of British.

No it is butchery/vandalism at no point did TVR use the LSEngine in any of their cars.
