Chimaera Locking/ Immobiliser Issues
Discussion
Hi
I just bought a 1994 Chimaera which ran smoothly the first day I bought it. Yesterday the immobiliser decided to go off whilst driving and could hear the occasional beep of it being armed. It also cut power as I was at traffic lights. Disarming it using the key for the driver side door ahd no effect, however after about 10 minutes it decided to disarm itself
Upon locking the car for the evening, the car decided to repeatedly try and lock itself and resulted in me being locked out of the car completely. Upon trying to deactivate the immobiliser, it sounds as if a spring has come loose in the key barrel. Does anyone ahave any advice? Also, would need to get in the car as my mobile is still in the car! Would be great if you have tips on how to bypass this system to get inside.
Many thanks!

Is it a META or Foxguard. If a META try giving the top of the dash a good few thumps. May activate a lazy relay. Also try your spare key. If it unlocks then locks, be quick and open the door in between unlocks and locks. This sometimes happens to me if the passenger did not close his door fully shut.
There is a way to get in. A Chim owner out there will tell you. I'm a Griff.

Egb, as your a griff owner and your car is less subtle I'd avoid banging the dash in a Chim, lol, I had a dodgy connection for the heater when I first got the car, sat at a junction banged said dash to re connect heater, tripped the fuel shut off. There can be nothing worse than pushing a Tvr in front of other road users!
At least everything works in my car!
Its easier to take the dash off and check than pushing the bugger through traffic like a lemon.
So you've driven the car home after buying it and hen the next day the immobiliser is playing up!!!!

ultimately it is a good idea to replace the alarm and immobiliser - they are now 20 years old.
Carl Baker did mine - not that expensive for the many +ves you get
alarm and immob now work reliably and properly
car will sit for ages now and not run the battery down
Carl fitted a hot start circuit and a boot release button on the fob
new fobs with both keys integrated into them
fob works from miles away now instead of me "metal detecting" around the front of the car to get the alarm to go off
recommended...
