Anyone know of a TVR specialist (or at least someone who knows the RV8) in Kent or the South East, who is also familiar with Motec, and has access to a rolling road - asking a lot I know, but the only Motec dealer in the area is Will Gollop, who only has an engine dyno?

That aside Austec in Crawly certainly know TVR's and have a rolling road.

Yep, Those people who used to be called Rovercraft. Now called Progress engineering. They use to use a good guy called Liam Humberstone. Progress are in Kent, Maidenhead? Past Canterbury! Can't get more south or east then that

The main motec dealer i know of is Powerstation in Cheltenham .. giv Rich Benton a call there and have a chat .. using a local place isn't always the best ..

It was Liam at Progress that fitted my system. Unfortunately, he's now teaching a motorsports course at Lancaster Uni., and Progress have now sold their rolling road.

BTW, Motec is a programmable engine management system.

I can highly recommend Austec. Had some work done there myself and would defiantly go back. Not sure about the Motec front though, but they're very accommodating.

Thirded (or fourthed). They deal with engine management systems on TVRs regularly, don't know if motec is one of them.

Why dont you use mark adams at austec? he has maped a number of motec systems and you know it will be right

Thanks for the recommendations of Austec. The car was actually there for several days earlier this year specifically for a RR tune. Unfortunately, they didn't have the right cabling to hook up to the ECU, so nothing got done.

I have actually asked Mark whether he could take this job on - waiting for a reply. There don't seem to be many people who know the RV8 and Motec.

Thanks for the kind offer. I've managed to borrow the lead from Progress, who did the install, although as its an early system, the cable has some sort of modem box built into it. I presume you run Motec?

yes i was running motec in my rv8 bmw but it was a 5year old m4 system and have now sold it and am going for the omex 700 series as it is much faster than my original motec

Is the box an interface so you can use a lap top and handheld calibrator together or just one at a time? This is how my unit used to be

The box does have a spare 9 pin d shaped port - don't know if it's for the calibrator as I haven't got one. I do know that a conventional pc type cable without the box won't work though, although I think later versions did away with the box.

Well my unit was a 93/4 item and it had the hand held, wow I miss that. As you say, later units don't have it which is a pity.

I had to sell it because it wouldn't support 8 coils but I really liked it, a lot!
