Hi all
Has anybody used a fuel controller such as the apexi safc on their chimaera? I know its a half arsed attempt at tuning the fuel mix but if you aren't not going to dive in for the expensive standalone ecu and programming then it maybe a cheap way to fix the rich running chimaeras out there.
On the rich running topic- im convinced my chimaera is running massively rich, now I know people say its a tvr they all run rich but im sure this is excessive, somebody on here said it could be in limp mode causing to run rich, how would I find out? Its been this way since I got it so I have nothing to compare it to.
Back to the fuel conttoller, previously to the tvr I was all honda and honda guys use the apexi safc all the time, because they're cheap! I plan to go with the megasquirt system but been thinking about the safc as a temporary fix to the over fuelling.

Something is probably wrong with your existing system/set up that I would fix before thinking about changing ECU. Do you know anyone with a rover guage lead or an ECU mate?

Are these tools something specific to tvrs or would an AA man be likely to have one? Reason I ask is that the girlfriends dad is an AA man. Am I right in thinking the rover gauge is just a lead that plugs between somewhere on ecu and a laptop? Could someone give me a idiots guide walk through on how to diagnose ecu problems using the rover gauge as I would imagine that is cheaper than the ecumate.

Have you changed anything or has it always been like this? An ECU reset may help if it's a recent thing?

Rovergauge £35. Lead plus software. Helps you diagnose. Doesn't tell you how to fix it.
Tother one over £100. Publicise the fact you live in Essex.....loads of TVR owners in furrydiceland, so someone will be pleased to help.

AA men will have a computer that uses ODBC 2, TVR predates that. Ask him, he may have the older style thingy. I think it's ODB.

Or go to someone like PR Wood in Sarfend. He knows what he is doing, will be able to diagnose the problem and make the adjustments necessary.
Be cheaper and better than carrying on wasting fuel.
Sometimes TVR experts are worth their money.

Well I have changed stuff but only exhaust system and decat and ignition leads but its never been right in my opinion. Always smelled incredibly rich and guzzled fuel at an astonishing rate, I know its a tvr but I dont believe it should be this bad. I wouldn't necessarily say black smoke but a constant visible fumes. After speaking to the AA man (girlfriends dad) he thinks it could be a temp sensor not working so makes the car run as if its still cold. Which would explain the problem starting it again while hot. Sound right?
I plan to use megasquirt in the future and was going to install a wideband gauge anyway. I might install the wideband asap that way I would be able to see if it definitely is running rich, good idea?
I've seen some people say on here they regularly get like high 20's mpg figures, im lucky to get near half of that.

If in limp home mode and possibly running rich as a consequence. I am told but stand to be corrected, that you will be unable to rev the engine above 3000- 4000 rpm? Worth a try. Temp sensor is an easy fix.
