I have taken phazed advice and put a wire from the connector to chassis and the oil pressure light comes on, so this must mean the oil pressure switch is broken

Will I need to drain the oil and will it have to be a special TVR one to match the gauge cheers .

Most motor factors will carry one to fit and will be cheaper than the identical one in a TVR bag!!

Which is it? Sender for the pressure gauge or switch for the idiot light; they are different things? The sender is on the bottom of the front cover, the switch on the side up above the filter. Neither need the oil to be drained to change.

Or you've sealed with so much plumbers tape it's not grounding in the block.....

Touch the wire from the chassis to the hex head of the switch and see if it works then.

I`ve not touched the switch ,just pulled the spade connector off and extended it to ground then the light comes on .

What makes the light go off when the engine is started ?

If too much tape is the problem that bit will also be insulated?
