Ticking noise coming from the engine

A few months back I was pulling off a motorway when a loud bang came from the engine and it started miss firing. Within 5 mins it was back to normal, but had started making a ticking/clicking noise. It went into the garage, but they could find nothing wrong with it. Ever since though, there is a ticking/clicking noise coming from the engine. The more you rev the more frequent the sound. Any ideas?
Could be one of the manifold gaskets?

Sounds to me like the camshaft or more likely considering the sudden onset, a rocker pad has detached itself from the rocker.
I would get the opinion of an engine builder (www.v8developments.com) or a good dealer.

Mine had a very noticeable sound a bit like a loud tick, tick, tick sort of thing. Like yours, the speed of ticking increased with increasing revs. It also ran rougher than normal. When I opened the bonnet with the engine running there was a 1 -2 cm spark from the coil to one of the HT leads. This was easily fixed.
Could this be the cause?

You need specialist help after what you have described. In my "humble" opinion, drive it to a V8 garage (TVR/Indy/whatever); you maybe creating bigger problems running it further.
It's just a lottery, to be honest, asking the forum to "quess" what it is.......
...just tell us what the specialist said, Tks I've had this for over a year now. It does sound very much like tappets ticking but in my case it is just the exhaust manifold.
A good way to check is to stick one end of a flexible tube in your ear and probe around the exhaust manifold and gasket with the other end. Don't forget to check right up inbetween where the 4 pipes meet.
Another tell-tale sign is that the ticking gets louder the more you put your foot down.
It's a common problem on these cars.
Getting mine fixed next week though!! Yaay!!

Not necessarily.........
I bought my car with ticking sound, plus replacement gaskets thrown in, and money off for the labour to change them.
After changing, tick remains, but goes when no.1 injector disconnected. We think dodgy spray pattern, or more likely sticky hydraulic lifter. Dan the Man at Leven reckons an air gun might blow out the crap caught in there - quick flush and fingers croseed, shouldn't be a pricey job.
And yes, I know I shouldn't have been in such a hurry to part with my money, but it's otherwise a good car, and I still believe the seller was genuine in thinking it was a manifold gasket. Even now, knowing what we do, it still sounds like a manifold gasket - will know the verdict from Leven next week.....

Mine was ticking and sounded really mettallic. Got told it was likely to be tappets (boo).
Replaced the manifold gaskets and problem was still there. Found out in the ned there was a small hole on one of the bottom pipes of the manifold itself just ahead of the gasket.
So priced up a new manifold from TVR (£500). In the ned I found one second hand from scrappers and had it fitted. no more noise!!

Any update for us yet. Maybe the injector you disconnected was the one related to the blowing exhaust manifold.

) courtesy car. I changed the gasket akready, so unless it was duff, deffo not the gasket!
