Fuel pump won't prime hence engine won't start. Any ideas? I've checked all the fuses in the passenger footwell...they all seem fine. the connector on the pump hasn't fallen off (has done before) so I'm now clueless at the mother-in-laws. Please help me leave here!!

You've checked the battery is OK?

If so...

This happened to me 2 weeks ago...

I suggest you give Carl Baker a ring http://www.tvruk.tv/contactus.html

Over the phone he will be able to do a diagnostic with you to either confirm or eliminate the immobiliser.

Hope this helps.

Mine did this, was the fuel pump relay in the footwell. Sorry can't remember which one, but there are 2 that look very similar.

The issue may be your immobiliser.

Try disconnecting your earth lead at the battery for 30 seconds or more, then reconnecting it.

Once reconnected cycle your immobiliser using your fob, ie lock & unlock the doors before trying to start the car.

It doesn't work every time but if you're lucky the jolt may free up the stuck relay in the immobiliser, if indeed that is what the problem is.

As crude as it sounds you can also try thumping the dash on the passenger side, again this can often free up the stuck relay in your imobiliser.

Good luck with it & report back if the disconnect & reconnecting the battery or thumping the dash worked.

Its all worth a try, but you could of course just have a bad connection at the fuel pump, this is also quite common.

Remove the near side rear wheel & check the connection at the fuel pump which lives up in the rear wheel arch on the that side.

THINK scratchchin
  • Fuse
  • Relay (fuel pump relay is the one fitted to the blue connector)
  • Connections at fuel pump
  • Immobiliser
  • Dead fuel pump
Its highly likely your issue will be one of the above.

Dave.

If it is the relay, you may as well change both the fuel pump and the starter motor relay

available here:

The relays are two that probably have a red stripe on them and they are on the main loom off the ECU etc.

Fuel pump reset under the dash board?

The screw down pouch on the passenger side, push the rubber button on the box. I set mine off putting the gearbox back in the other week, 15 minutes of head scratching hehe

Thanks all.

I don't know what exactly the problem was but after I removed all relays and switched their positions over randomly with each other (I didn't replace any), the fuel pump primed and it started effortlessly.

Strange. Typical TVR!

That might have a knock on effect. I know when mine went the guys told me to make sure I got the same type as the 2 in the foot well look similar but are different.
Although I might have misunderstood.
