I was wondering where I can get proper manifolds and exhaust parts to make it sound beastie!! It is completely standard 4.3

Can't you just take pre-cats out of the existing manifolds (£100) and then change your Y piece for a decat (ACT or Clive F)?

Keep your old Y piece for MOT time though.

I'm guessing the 4.3 isn't pre-cat? If so, remove pre-cats (DIY), replace Y piece with a de-cat jobbie (I've got a Clive F), leave box standard... (or plod will hear you coming from miles away).

I see you're in Suffolk, I'm in Norfolk if you fancy a drive up and a listen biggrin

+ 1

You can remove the silencer ("sleeve" the exhaust), but quite a number who have end up putting it back. It can sound a bit like a Mondeo with most of the exhaust missing......

Chilli is correct.you get a lovely raw/roar sound with all cats removed but the silencer still in place, without attracting unwanted plodlike attention. I got stopped by plod the other day, and they described my car as "lovely".

The precats can just be bashed out of the manifolds with a hammer and some suitable tool and several spare hours, the main cat is better replaced with an ACT or Clive Y piece. Both do the job, the Clive one is a work of art IMHO.

Check your manifolds for slight leaks at the 4>1 unions before you start. If they are leaking then you will need to have them cut open and repaired. Kill two moggies with one stone.

Pre-cats reside in the manifolds and are much easier to remove while the manifolds are cut open. The £100 quoted is the cost of a welding guy to cut open, mend, and re-weld your manifolds.

Thanks QBee. I should have made myself clearer as this is paying somebody to do the work on the manifolds for you (and fit non-reversal cones).

If you do go down the 'get a man to do it for you' route, don't forget a bit of labour to remove and refit the manifolds.

My silencer was sleeved from new, so I have no idea what it would sound like with standard exhaust aside from listening to others.

Remove pre-cats, leave main cats in place, fully sleeve silencer; quite nice smile
A lot easier than messing with the main cat for every MOT.
It produces a nice original(ish) but louder sounding V8 rumble with just enough 'cackle' to give it a bit of an edge, and at full throttle is tremendous (I have been told).

I quite like being as loud as the neighbour's tractors (that's both bloody neighbours. long sigh...), without sounding like one of them.
Nothing quite like a bit of retribution biggrin

If it really is a 430 the manifolds are not the same as these chaps are familiar with, they have bolted flanges not clamped up flanges.
AFIK neither Cliff or Tim make decat y-pieces for the 430 style bolted flange manifolds with pre-cats.

TBH simply getting the pre-cats taken out should be your first step, the different engines sound quite different, and if yours isn't audibly acceptable it will more likely be fixed with a new cam (as they wear & soften the engine becomes 'muted').
