As my central locking suddenly won't activate after a short lay-up when setting the alarm:-

I have since replaced the central locking relay and checked my Alarm & Immobiliser feeds with the kind help of Carl Baker remotely with a multi-meter, I am now considering replacing both door solenoids.

The question is although having checked the power to the Meta system and ruled out failures in other areas, I'm still not convinced both door solonoids could have failed at the same time independantly. They also look quite difficult to access so the thought of replacing these (5x wire) on the off chance isn't filling me with confidence or that this is the cause

Anyone had this before ?

Yes. I think one solenoid froze up, that fried the big blue locking relay which then fried the other solenoid blowing a fuse or 2 along the way. Replaced both solenoids with Maplins cheapo jobbies, nice easy job and got a new relay from ebay for IIRC £11.

Easy to check , just pull out the solenoids and see if they move freely. Both of mine were locked up solid.

Well - despite lack of replies both solonoids had failed. Seems heck of a coincidence but there we go.

Both now working a treat so at least full META system doesn't have to be replaced afterall.

Only just seen this thread and yes happened to me under very similar circumstance (94 Griffth 500.) Car had been stood for about 4 weeks while on holiday, got back unlocked ok and put battery charger on as I knew battery would low on charge. When I came to lock it, nothing from the door solenoids. Thought it must have been the alarm brain or CDL relay problem, after thorough electrical checking of every thing, turned out both solenoids had failed. Both motors had burnt out, figured the alarm/CDL system lost the plot and just sent 12V for long enough to fry the solenoid motors. Odd because I have done this many times in the years I have owned the car without issue and never had any problems with locking/unlocking the car, next time I'll cycle the door locking a few times when recharging after a lay up.

Interesting comparison Oz - glad it wasn't just mine...

FWIW although my car is laid up i tend to run it at least monthly and use a trickle charger, doors are also opened and closed several times in that period as i tend to mess around getting things in & out, so i can't see a reason (unlike yours) as to why they failed together. I'm putting it down to coincidence, I just i hope i don't find a bigger issue over the summer months......
