This was on GG (I think) with a picture of a very dirty F40..

But its made me wonder... I've been at home this week, and although I've had some work to do (as in business work), I've also managed to get the roof off and get out on the road smile However, beastie hasn't been cleaned since, umm, probably last September, day before the sports and classic by the lake bash just outside Bury... So, I've wandered outside, looked at beastie... seen the grime and thought must get the bucket out, followed by polish... roof needs scrubbing and re-treating... hmm.. then I've looked up at the sky... all blue... realised I've ventured outside with only a tee shirt on.. (OK, trousers and shoes as well)...... So, I need to hear that noise... I'll just fire her up before I get the bucket and rags out... And that's it.. next thing I know is I've got the roof off and we're out hooning....

Begs the question, why polish when you can drive biggrin

And anyway, she's a bit like a woman... the dirty one's are always more fun biggrin

Generally I only give it a wash when it has bird st on it - other wise just drive. Or sometimes when the wheels have an anthracite type colour.
I had the Chimaera resprayed a few years back at a reputable TVR specialist and asked him how I could keep it looking so nice.

"Stop bloody washing it, that's all you TVR drivers do and after a while it dulls the lacquer" he said. Not sure how true it is, but reason enough for me to take heed smile

Both

I made some (very) rough calculations.

Assumptions;
average 10 hours of daylight
average speed 45mph
18mpg
petrol £1.37/litre for V Power

45mph @ 18mpg for 10 hours = £154.81
£154.81 x 365 days = £56,505.65

Additionally, you would have to take it in for a service every 13.3 days.
Somehow, don't ask me how I manage it, I find time to wash it too smile

You can do both.

Wash, polish & wax, wax again.
Take it out regardless of the weather, get back, garage and wash when appropriate.

Wax layer makes it easier to wash and it still looks good even when it's not that clean.

Love to clean and polish her. Love to drive her. But I really enjoy the driving best when I know all is clean and shiny, just seems to drive nicer for some reason.

I only wash mine when I am going to anything related to large gatherings of TVRs, or TVRCC meetings.
Don't confuse me with someone who gives a st.
It's just my inner milk of human kindness - don't want all my fellow TVR owners to get permanent neck ache from looking down their noses at my scruffy car whistle

Done 10,000 miles, including 10 track days and two Thunders in the Tunnels, in the last 10 months. drivingwoohoo

Not at all Daz. If they drive it, it might get dirty. And they will put miles on it. And that will spoil the resale value.
Who is going to buy a Sagaris with 70,000 miles, let alone 130,000 miles on it? Sag owners just polish them and look at them.
Macdeb is a case in point. Lovely fella, but 17,000 miles in 12 years (all values approximate)? eek
Obviously saving it for the grandchildren. scratchchin

Sorry fella, miles off. I don't have kids. You do your thing, I'll do mine.

Absolutely right. You bought it, you look after it, yours to choose what you do with it.
