ACT Cherry Bomb system fitted
Discussion
Having decided to put some silencing onto the car, the ACT Cherry Bomb system was fitted today replacing the ACT Supersports.
Initial results are that it has added quite a lot of silencing.
On a quick static test it looks like it has reduced sound level by around 10db, dropping it from 119db to 109db at 4000rpm.
It is clearly quieter in the cruise, I'll do some testing over the weekend.
The exhaust note is deeper, which is pleasing.
I'm sure it is psychological, but it does feel like it's not as free revving or as raucous in the power delivery. I think this is probably just down to it not sounding as wild.

Whats the difference between the two ?Initial results are that it has added quite a lot of silencing.

I like my Cherry Bomb system, it is nice and quiet at idle and when cruising but it nice and loud when you throttle it.
I didn't realise ACT did a system that is straight through, so it has not middle box whatsoever, just contiuous pipework?
They only sold a few around 10 years ago, they replaced it with the Cherry Bomb as it was considered too loud and raw.I didn't realise ACT did a system that is straight through, so it has not middle box whatsoever, just contiuous pipework?
When you look at it, there is a middle box but it was purely cosmetic.
It is an empty box welded around the solid pipes ... apparantly.
Just done to make it "look" like it had a silencer.
I am liking the sound and the quietening effect of the Cherry Bomb, but initially it felt like it has impacted the free-revving nature and therefore the brutalness of the engine - hard to put into words.
Maybe it will bed in, it's only done a few miles on the new system.
I need to do more testing, it may be that it's just in my head with it being quieter.
If I do feel like it's too restrictive, then I can always put the Cherry Bomb system on for touring then put the Supersports back on for general playing around. It took less than an hour for Big Col at TVRSSW to switch them over yesterday. I normally get the car checked over before and after a big trip so it would be an easy matter to have the exhaust switch added to the pre/post trip checklist.
It will be nice for my wife and anyone following me on long trips to have some silencing.

Yeah that is a bit strange if the car does not feel as free-revving. Perhaps it is a Placebo effect but I suppose the only way you will know for sure is to dyno the car back to back with the new and old system.
I didn't notice any difference when I fitted mine. Mine was originally fitted when I still had cats and precats, what was quite strange was the car was quieter with the cherry bombs than it was with the standard back box.
What would be nice is a switchable silencer box so you can be noisy when you want to fool around and quiet when you are touring.

MP help!
Been on a short test run.
I think it's the reduction in sound level which is making it feel like the performance is affected.
Also noticed that where before I had insane levels of popping and banging these are now less obvious. Still there but not all the time, to be honest they were so prevalent before it was verging on being embarressing
From a sound level perspective at this point I say it is like this:
ACT Supersport with standard Y piece = ACT Cherry Bomb with decat Y piece.
Obviously the decat does remove a big restriction in the system so frees things uo considerably.

Fitted mine today, very pleased with the sound of it.
This is precats removed, standard Y piece with cat and ACT cherry bomb exhaust.
