Hi all
After reading a previous thread about power runs to diagnose warn cams I thought that would be the way to go .
I drive a 97 4.0 chimaera which has just gone to 89000 miles,it has a good service history and is my first tvr.
So went to surrey rolling road and these where the results.
I thought this must be good news ?

Looks a good result to me. Good BHP, and torque peaking at about 4,000 rpm. That's about right IMHO.

Perfect, and good bhp for any 400, never mind an 89,000 example.

I was really pleased, they quote 240bhp from new so a loss of 10 in 17 years can't be to bad.
This means camshaft replacement can be put on the back burner now, so I think I will look at
Changing the carpets this year ,
Thanks for all the input chaps

Frankly 240 was optimistic. Last one I saw that had been on an RR was 210 bhp. Most are 200-220 i gather. All the more embarrassing when I could barely shake him off at Snetterton......

Yours is a gem. Look after it and enjoy!

And repeat the dyno run every year or two, preferably at the same place so you can compare results to look for the onset of wear. At 89,000 miles it'll happen sooner or later.

Yes I was going to make it an annual event so I can monitor cam wear.
No the car is completely standard 4 owners plenty of service history and
If I'm honest not a garage queen,it has been used in the past.

Gives me hope that mine isn't worn, what is the cost of a rolling road run?

About sixty quid.
None very near Cambridge that I know of, and I work around Cambridge.
Don't go to PeteBaldwin at Orwell, his reads about 20% high and doesn't give you a print out.
There's one the far side of Norwich, but you need to go to a known quantity one to get meaningful readings.
Another possible is at Setchey, A10 your side of Kings Lynn. I don't have their contact details, but Mat Smith Sports Cars (01366 386004), the TVR expert in Downham Market, knows and uses them. Do you already take your car to him? If you don't, then you probably should. He's a top guy and has been on TVRs for about 20 years.
A good place, but about 120 miles from you, is Jools at Chesterfield. He has a rolling road I believe, and is a TVR expert, and will know what the results mean. Spitfire4V8 is his PH name.

How many miles are on the car?

Ignition timing. 4.3l has a different timing than the other engine types. About 12 degrees @1000rpm and 34degrees @ 4000rpm with vacuum disconected.

I would take it to a TVR guy for diagnosis. You could spend thousands randomly replacing stuff, just to find that the air intake is folded flat...banghead

If you are near Kerridges (Needless Market), go there. If further north and west Suffolk, go to Mat Smith at Downham Market. Stay and watch if you have time. He has a courtesy car if you don't. Both Chilliwhizz and I go to Mat.

Finally, where did they tell you it was 160 bhp?
