Bump.

I can see its attached to the release arm with a clip but is the rod just a push fit?

IE: Can you just pull the push rod out?

Box is a T5.

Pull plastic clip towards centre and it will come out IIRC.

The plastic clip has 2 prongs (one on each side) to hold it in place, spread them out and the clip and rod will come out

Have a look through the inspection hole, you should be able to see it from there smile

It depends who made the arm, I've seen some dodgy patent ones where the rod feeds through the hole.

Does anyone have a picture of the arm with the clip on, I have a feeling I have no clip? and the push rod goes through the hole in the release arm.

cheers

Thanks all, that's very helpful.

I'm still struggling with the damn clip to be honest mad

It's tricky to see the clip through the inspection hole & hard to feel how its attached.

Any more tips on releasing it so I can get the rod out would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Dave.

The hole is big enough to get your phone in there isnt it? Stick it in there and take a video, pretend you're a surgeon doing keyhole surgery biggrin

Just found this image:

So am I correct in saying this white plastic clip:

Fits in the sprung clip on my release arm circled in red below?

Have I understood this correctly?

No..smile

IIRC.... The ball end of the rod, fits into the dimple at the thin end of the arm.... Then you push the white clip over the thin end of the rod up to the ball end, and the little tangs go over the edges of the arm, thus keeping the thin rod in place...

The springy bit you've circled on the arm, is the place where the ball of the screwed in pivot point is located.... You can see on the pic of the arm I posted has been reinforced in this area.... As this is a weak point, and eventually the ball will wear its way through the arm and punch a hole....

Got it, clearly I was thinking back to front this morning silly

Thanks to everyone who's contributed & especially Andav469 (David) for taking the snaps.

They've really helped my small brain understand that even smaller clip, & how it's fitted wink

Hi, has anyone actually fitted this little clip with the gearbox in place?

Working through the slave hole & the bigger inspection hole is proving a real challenge.

In moving the release arm towards the slave hole to get better access I also inadvertently popped the release arm spring clip off the fulcrum pin, its design is such that getting it back on is also virtually impossible.

Has anyone got any tips before I pull the box?

frown Sounds nasty. Wondering how much of a gap you can make just by unbolting the prop and the box from the engine, you might be able to slide it back far enough to give you a big enough gap to work through.

Thinking from memory, can you remove the lower cover plate on the gearbox to give further access?

Thanks guys, the splash guard at the bottom of the bell housing was removed right from the start but it's still a real challenge.

Can someone confirm if it's possible to remove the release arm with the box still in place?

If so I could fit the fiddly push rod to the release arm with it off the car, then re-install the arm & push rod as one assembly.

Cheers, Dave.

Yes, you can fit the pushrod to the arm on the bench, and then fit the whole lot through the hole in the bellhousing...

Its fiddly, but doable..... First time took me ages, but I could do it in 10 minutes nowbiggrin

You can remove the release arm in situ wink getting the release arm blocks back into the release bearing carrier may be tricky though scratchchin

Cheers again guys, I may be swapping one fiddly job for another by taking the release arm out but at least I now know its possible.

And hey a change is as good as a rest wink

Fekin thing is really pishing me off now, the problem is I'm doing all this lying on my back effectively fisting the bell housing, fortunately a mixture of engine oil & Dinitrol are providing excellent lubrication.

Oh for a four post lift weeping

Wish me luck, I'm going back in frown
