I will be having my car converted to Lupo lights very soon.

Is it wise to buy new? Or can i save a bundle buying a second hand pair on ebay?
Is a certain model and year more suitable?

I see you can also get aftermarket smoked ones. Do you think these would look better on an Imperial blue Chim.

All advice and ideas appreciated

The backs are goosed on my old originals. So while the cars getting stripped and painted seemed the perfect time to get it done and let S&D blend them in properly

Having done this I would be wary of buying second hand units unless you can inspect them first.

They can go very cheap on ebay, especially as their mounting lugs are prone to breaking off rendering them useless for lupus but still fine for transplant. Problem I found was that Lupos are now old cars and so second hand lights often have pitted and scratched lenses. Might be Ok on your ten year old Lupo but I wanted things perfect so binned the second hand ones I had sourced and bought new at approx £60 a piece.

You will also need a means of wiring them into the chimaera loom - you can drill a hole in the lupo lights and splice into the circuit. A neater solution is to chop the headlight loom out of an old Lupo and make use of the multi pin plug on the lupo lights.

Oh and you are better off buying genuine Bosch or Magnetti units - the pattern Chinese ones are a bit variable in quality.

With the original Bosch reflectors being overpriced by certain retailers they are more than double the cost of each new, branded lupo. !!!!

Chimaera Mk3s or the final run out editions had these lights from the factory along with Cerbera seats so it is technically original TVR.

Sportmotive sell the kit it is a 7" lamp...

Have a look through this thread for more pics. I have seen a few Chimaeras with this conversion and they look bloody fantastic.

I fully appreciate that the idea of spending £120 per side to renew the reflectors is a bit daunting, but unless you get a great deal on the lupos, it usually seems to cost more by the time the job is fully completed.
Anyone who thinks that [original parts] is expensive should buy two new headlight units for a Volvo. Even from Euro Car Parts they were over £130 each, with Volvo originals costing over double that.

TVRs are still pretty cheap to run, in a backward man logic / man math sort of way biggrin

I'd definately fit the mk3 lights if I thought I had the DIY skills to do it.

I'm not too worried about cutting out the old bowls, but really concerned about getting the correct headlight alignment and also getting a good finnish when bonding the covers to the body. I'm based in Aberdeen so don't really have the option of getting one of the specialists to do the work.

My current plan is to fit the steve edwards covers, however my reflectors are in pretty bad condition so theres a lot of work and cost involved in just replacing the original lights, so the MK3 kit from sportmotive looks to be better value overall and probably looks better if done properly.

Any thoughts on how easy this is to do as a DIY job?

Trawl the ads for second hand OEM units, they do come up quite often, if the lens is slightly marked you can polish out the marks easily.
I picked up a pair for the same price as 1 lens, did the conversion and now I can see at night and make the front end look a lot nicer, I am just pondering the Steve Edwards covers.
