I need to get the Chimaera back on the road after its MOT expired a few weeks ago.

It's got the main cat back in, but I believe the precats have been removed. Assuming that is the case:
1) Do I need a particularly friendly MOT tester to agree to the car being tested warm?
2) How long have I got to get it onto the emissions machine after a good warm up drive? Are we talking straight onto the hose with the engine still running or would it still be okay if they conducted other parts of the MOT first and then did the emissions at the end?

Also, the only thing I can think of that's not working on the car is the interior fan. I planned to sort this out when I do the dash, but it occurred to me it might be an MOT requirement (like windscreen wipers etc.) Anyone know if that's the case?

Any other things to check before the MOT apart from the usual bulbs and the like?

The lack of precats will not impact the MOT test.

Fan not mot
Always like to do the gas test as I arrive when the cats are hot, but just precats out and should pass no problem

Excellent, that solves that problem.

At least assuming the cat is indeed present and functioning... The car originally came decatted and it wasn't until the recent engine rebuild that I acquired a standard Y-piece. I'm pretty sure that's the one that was sent off when the engine went back in, but it still sounds pretty loud for a standard exhaust. It went to a TVR-friendly garage last time for the MOT and I've always wondered if it actually still has the decatted Y-piece in place!

The other thing that springs to mind is the windscreen wiper motors. They're fine if there's actually some moisture present, but they're slow to say the least on a dry windscreen and I can't remember if they actually even move on the lowest setting if it's bone dry. Anyone know if that's a potential MOT issue?

Ah, and the front numberplate might be a tiny bit on the small side. Again, it's been like that for the entire time I've had the car and hasn't caused any problems previously, but it's always been with garages that are used to specialist cars.

What MOT garage are you taking it to?

I had a chat to Martin at Bespoke Performance and apparently they tend to use Highline in Hertford, so I'll probably go for that.

Good plan. I took mine to Bespoke Performance and just got them to send it for its MOT, not sure where it went though.

Sorry to hijack but I'm concerned about the handbrake for my MoT. It comes up 3 clicks, 2 doing not a lot and then the 3rd puts it on solid. Problem is, it's a hell of a pull. On days I haven't had a big breakfast, I need 2 hands to get it on. I get the 'they're all like that' from most people but wonder if it's a failure point. i intend to use someone who's familiar with TVRs in case.

I would say you need the left arm of Garth to pull it on but many readers won't remember Garth.

Mine is the same, and hasn't been a problem for MOT's. As long as you explain it or take it to a place that knows TVR's it shouldn't be a problem.

+1
TADTS
The only click that matters is the last one.

Thanks. Thing is, if the MoT tester can't get the last click, it doesn't matter how good it is!

Ask the tester to put his foot on the brake pedal. The handbrake is easier to apply if you do.

the brakes should be tested on the road with some motion type sensor in the footwell. it doesn't involve much speed and that would probably stop the tester using the foot brake to help the hand brake.

There isn't much adjustment. Mine failed on handbrake last year, had to be loosened off slightly so the tester could get it on three clicks and it worked.
