Does anyone one know what the limiter is set at with the rev counter.

I've managed to kick it in twice now!

I don't always have a rev limiter but sometimes she comes for a drive.

Oh, you mean the actual physical one. Mine's about 6.2K revs

I'm obviously not trying hard enough as I've never hit it.

Was it one of your youtube videos where I thought it sounded like it cut in too early? Sounded about 1k too low iirc

If you're on the standard TVR 14CUX ecu I would have thought that it's incorporated into the map on there, is it a standard engine and ecu?

Has it always been where it is and is it constantly there? Iirc the standard limit is set at 6500rpm and there's no point in it being higher than that as peak power and torque is around 5500rpm, yours did sound really low though, what does the needle say when you hit it?

The other thing is, specially if this is something new that is happening and it's not consistent, is that it's not the rev limiter kicking in and you've got a massive misfire going on at high revs.

That does sound like a hard cut rev limiter around 5k, your other couple of videos you're short shifting before it too. You'll have a sex wee if you fix it, you're missing the fun part of the rev range hehe

I'm at the other end of the country and going from a youtube video, but if this has only just started happening I would be looking at spark, probably the dizzy/rotor arm/sensor if it doesn't randomly misfire whilst normally running. You could probably do with roverguage so that you can see if its throwing any error codes.

What you really need is someone more local to have a poke around though.

Not really frown by 5.8/6k even on the HC its all over you only really it the rev limiter in the 1st 2 gears if your going for it if your trying to hang the motor out to bang the limiter in any gear above this your just pissing in the wind and probably need to learn how to drive a car quickly scratchchin

Yeah, but that 'sounds and looks' a lot lower than 6k, I agree that there isn't loads more power at the top but that just seems way low. I know it's sometimes hard to gauge things just from a video, but that doesn't sound even slightly close to where mine cuts in.

driving

I've been sitting here watching youtube videos of chimaeras going up the drag strip and it it so hard to tell, it sounds like people are changing up where your rev limiter is cutting in. You need to bee looking at the needle and tell us what it's cutting in at biggrin

When my 450 was on the rollers it showed a "soft" cut at 5500 & full cut in at 6250. Not sure what the technician meant by a soft cut but it seems to tie in with optimum time to change up.

Your technician was assuming the fuel and ignition are both controlled by the ECU and was feeding you BS smile

Defintly wasn't a rev limiter on my old 14cux, not unless it was past 7k rpms

Mines 6200 but rev conter reads about 5650 when it hits?
Does the standard landie ( Range Rover ) chip max out at 5500!
Some say some late 4.6 engines had the landie chip, sounds like bks to me but you never know with these cars!

Mine was about 5 something till I had some fault codes cleared now it's somewhere over 6 I think.

I have only it hit once since but I wasn't looking at the dash.

My first ('93) chim 400 had a range rover ecu and the rev limiter came in around 5500. When I got a proper tvr ecu in there it revved to 6500 and the power kept climbing to around 6k.
Agreed Sardonicus the power is over by then but there is something very special about a rover v8 with no cats and sleeved silencers revving that high.

Now I don't know what to think wobble

I always thought that mine was higher. I only ever occasionally hit it, normally in 2nd whilst being a hooligan so I'm rarely looking at the gauge.

5900rpm in 3rd according to the needle. Excuse the dash, interior is on the to do list paperbag

Yours may be correct, let us know where it is set biggrin

When I first had a v8 discovery years ago. I had an odd missfire at full throttle when over taking, that turned out to be the rev limiter kicking in lol... on the disco it was set lower at about 5.5.

i have seen some tvrs with the lover rev limit, i.e. still got the original landrover map!!!
