What are the collective views on stick on front number plates?

I'm now tempted to leave the metal grille but removing the daft plate and sticking one on the bonnet??

Good plan or nasty?

Neither good nor nasty, but illegal, I think.

Look this one up - I think your car has to be a certain age to be allowed stick-on plates - but I could be wrong.

There is a British Standard which relates to this (BS AU 145D), referencing colour, typeface, "and rigidity" of number plates.

I cannot find anywhere that says, definitively, 'non', though.

But... why would you? wink

Personally I don't think the grilled version look nice with the E-Type type stick on plate. whistle I like the 2/3 size in the middle of the grille (and no pulls or MOT probs). smile

Mine looks like this, I love it (lloks kind of retro) and have not yet been stopped for having the plate where it is...

The only thing I would add is that it leaves thr radiator exposed to stones and other stuff, but so far again, I have not had any trouble (in about 4 years and 10,000 miles).

All the best,

When I had a '95 with the grille, I moved the plate to below the opening and used strong Velcro. I always meant to come up with a more permanent solution but never did because it worked ok and I never got stopped.

No legality issues for stick on plates so long as it meets requirements for font, size and letter spacing.

Only legal issue are the pre 1972 black plates white numbers for cars of that age only.

I ran a stick on bonnet plate on a modified scoobs bonnet with no problems, so long as its visible and meets the above requirements theres no probs.

I ordered a 3/4qtr front plate with a tvr backlit std sized rear plate for my chim from http://www.fancyplates.com/
The letters are within legal limits, but the border is quite a bit smaller.

was velcrod onto the front grill, but currently being relocated to front below the grill, pics when i pick it up at the weekend smile
granted may get more crud thrown at the front, but with that crud comes more cooling fresh air

Why bother, just make sure your rear plate is nice and legal. If you go without a front, at worst it's a £60.00 fine. Usually the BIB will be understanding if the car is of the rarer type - especially if there's no obvious mounting point. Hence why a lot of Supercar owners don't bother.
