Hi guys

Having looked into why the intermittent setting on my chim's windscreen wipers stops the wipers in random places on the screen, I decided to have a go at swapping the wiper motor park switch.

I've replaced it with the Lucas part no 520160 but now the wipers run continually with the ignition on.

Any ideas what I've managed to balls up?

No idea, and the wiring schematic in the bible sheds no light. What happens if you unplug the stalk from the loom? Was it a genuine lucas part, have you tried just cleaning up your old switch and plugging that back in?

Stating the obvious but you've got a live going somewhere it shouldn't, so I would start with a multimeter at the wiring for the park switch and check that is getting all of the correct voltages at the right times and correct pins.. if that's all right then it's probably your new switch.

I'm beginning to think the new switch is the problem. Will give cleaning the old one a try and see if I can borrow a multimeter from a mate.

Switch not fitted properly so it is constantly trying to "park" the wipers?

Cheers guys. Will try both of the above. Where is the relay box?

You might have already done this, but if not, check the delay unit in the relay panel. Had similar issues with my wipers, turned out the delay unit was hanging half out of its socket. Pushed it back in and all was well.

Mind you, this was after i'd had the wiper motor out, replaced the park switch, dismantled the steering column to check the switch etc. What did I learn from this? As much as I enjoy tinkering, check the obvious stuff before resorting to PH wisdom biglaugh

Weird, got an error msg to say there was a problem with that post, so reposted it, but you must have seen the original.

Assume its same as the griff - main relay panel in the passenger footwell. From memory the delay unit is a blue plug in unit, bit smaller than the other relays.

Brilliant, cheers. Will give it a go tomorrow.

Quick update, tried all the fuses after contorting myself into a position to reach them, no change, then cleaned up the contacts on the cables either side of the new switch with some contact cleaner and bingo! Job done.

I now have wipers that stop in the right place.

Cheers for the tips!
