I had a right good old hoon today. Which isn't a statement my normal self would usually utter. But it was an absolute blast, known and regular circuit clear roads, sunshine, winding and dipping bends - all dry and perfect. At several points I hit the speed limit quite quickly.

Since my de-cat I have been unable to control to burble and pops and bangs as much I was previously.

Now when I get a bang it's window shaking, 12 bore blast of fury - but I can't predict the bugger. It comes after elongated over-run - as I would expect but when it catches it always catches me by surprise - and the first couple I honestly thought I had snapped something or lost a wheel.

She has a lovely cough when revving quickly ( low speed clutch down tunnel stuff )

The burbles are mostly gone form the cockpit, though I have been told by several people It sounds pretty awesome when trailing.

So - What is the science behind all of this ? I have seen Cerbs spit fire on roundabouts. (do I spit fire?)

Are the bangs... bad in anyway for the exhaust system ?

Cheers

Z

No, the bangs aren't really bad for the exhaust system if it has integrity.
The flames can be had on a Rover V8 too, but the AJP in a Cerb has some kind of overlap in the valve timing so unburnt fuel gets into the exhaust ready to be ignited.

If you want more, you could always do what Daz has done to his...

The other Daz (Vee8eight) has wired an igniter into his Cerb's tail pipe for just that purpose.........

Is that a spark plug or glow plug ? How does it know when to activate ?

Not sure Daz. He's an electrician, and wired it in the week before last year's Thunder. Instead of changing his slipping clutch.
hehe

He's on here often enough and will I believe be on the Rutland run on 12th April prior to Burleigh. Ask him. He lives about 6 miles from me, BTW.

There's a bit of the delinquent 19 year old in all of us.......just more highly developed in some than others. hehe

In me it's the part that still makes me want to gallop horses at 60 years of age, with little idea of where the brakes are.....and that thinks that Kylie is both beautiful and an ideal dinner guest (along with Stephen Fry, Boris Johnson and Miranda Hart).

Would think that it's mostly anti lag on the japs, can't think of a reason flames would invalidate your insurance confused

After all the abuse, I will check with my friend and see what his mod was/is. I am pretty sure he is just igniting the unburnt fuel on the over-run from the engine.

And if still being young inside makes me a tit, then guilty as charged. Mrs QBee has orders to shoot me if I look like acting my age (or if the arthritis, backache, prostate problems, etc etc get too bad). Or if my marbles start to disappear, or i start turning into my late father.

Looks like I am dodging a bullet already..... laugh
