Hi All. Just ordered a new Emerald ECU, delivery end of next week. Should be a fairly easy job to swap it for the Motec then a rolling road session on Emerald's Rollers. Quite looking forward to it but the only downside is i have to take the engine out again to have new piston rings fitted. Going to try and get it all done in a week if I possibly can.

Good job thumbup

Are you having any extras, specifically the 3-way in car map adjuster?

What was wrong with the Motec M4 ECU?

Should I ask why you're replacing the rings?

That's exactly why I was asking biggrin Who's doing your mapping?

Mine is having Emerald in the next few weeks, what other 2 maps are you having?

The M4 is a lovely bit of kit, totally reliable and very well built but getting a bit long in the tooth now. I want to do other things like control fans, choose between different maps at the flick of a switch and so on. Also it will be nice to have the manufacturer virtually on my door step to talk to for advice.

Mmmm Piston rings, not my favourite subject at the moment. For whatever reason mine didn't bed in properly and are letting oil by. Only solution is to rip them out and replace with new ones. Rob, top guy, has offered to replace them for me FOC and then bed them in on his engine Dyno. Not many companies get praise on this site but i have to say that V8D are the best, end of story.

Rob does get praise for his honesty, skill and helpfulness thumbup

Unlike some other feckers but that's another story.

Sorry mate, only just seen your question. I've booked a rolling road session with Dave Walker on emeralds own rolling road.

I will have a full power map and maybe a more gentle wet weather one if that's possible with a NA engine.

Here it seems like a separate item. To be honest though, I do not know what comes in the box as standard so I could well be mistaken. Either way, I want the other switch, the 2 way with button for the 3rd map, makes use of the redundant space on my dash where the M.I.L light was smile

Same here, pops and bangs, full power and gentle/economy map. I'm a bit too far from Emerald themselves though so Colin Apps at TVRSSW is doing mine. He looks after Tuscan racers and is a whizz with all things TVR thumbup

The 3 way switch is an extra but only a few quid.

You should have full on power map and best economy all on the same map.

I have;

1. proper map

2. proper map with pops n bangs. (You need to be able to switch these off as they can become tiresome).

3. Same as 1. and was going to use this to do any tweaks to low speed running but Jools has done such a fine job ive not needed it.

I have found the Emerald really user friendly and dead easy to navigate your way round it. thumbup

I would recommend Jools to anyone . I don`t know how he does it ! especially with customers like me rolleyes I ask a million and one questions .

After a few thousand miles Jools is going to lower some of the parameters ,think its called EGO or something ,I may be wrong .

He may even lean some off a bit more on the ECO map .Problem is if you lean off to much lower speeds can shunt . I can feel a difference between full power at low speeds and if you put your foot down hard on the ECO map it does not go the same .

More importantly how it is fitted ,wired and mapped is very important .

You can get good results with most the ECU`s .

Why are you removing the engine to have the rings done?, you only need the heads and sump off or are you having other work done at the same time.
Good luck

Daren the emerald doesn't come with those sensors and switches as standard I had already bought those in for you knowing i would be needing them anyway, that's why everything was together in one box to show you.
