Is it just me that thinks engineering is art.
Standard Chimeara is a beautiful thing.

What do you chaps of distinction think of polished metal.

I think it looks great! I love the copper.

The real art is keeping it polished!

Simon your cars Silver, say no more, my fav Chim colour, there's a method to my madness.
When I drive it I put the miles on, when I don't drive it I have all this petrol money sitting about, cleaning up the front end has cost less per month than the Gas?!!?! So this seems cheap,
Now I'm into it I feel like taking it all apart again and doing a better job, in fact I've got used to not driving it and realised I like working on it just as much so I might turn it around and do the rear end before I put it on the road,,,,,, I'd like to finish it and leave it in a warm place for a few months( next winter) keep it clean, do a few more jobs, carpets etc and come 2015 really enjoy the car for many years to come.
I can understand why restoration is so expensive, it takes so much time. This polishing lark, its simply to enjoy the moment when its put back into the car, for me that's a priceless feeling. I've held off getting new bolts just to hold me up, mad but I want to enjoy the last bit like a fine wine, slowly. If I had the last few bits here it would be together in no time, nah I want to take it all in,,,,then some.
If I thought I liked and sometimes hate Tvr's now I'm really into the freaking thing! Its a drug, its simple I'm single at the mo, this fills my time and gets my brain working and for the first time in years no nagging while I'm obsessing over it.
I need a life but hey when I get one my car should be ready!

You will find that generally with TVR cars estimate how long a job will take then times it by 3 and you wont go wrong yikes

Crickey do I waffle on, that's the key to it, it takes what it takes and putting a time span on it takes half the fun away.
I allow plenty of time and feel pleasantly surprised when it all seems to go well.
I enjoy being very deliberate, like I'm handling a new born, lol, once you've done it you can only look at it again! Its the doing it that's exciting. Anyway its not all fun, I nearly smashed a tooth out when putting manifold back on, lying directly underneath the line of spanner as it slipped out my hand, ouch ya bleeder. I can laugh about it now but at the time!??!!?!

I'm just a bolt on man, your the ones pushing the envelope.
Maybe its best to strip the fkers once a year just to keep everything free.
Hey I'm a pro now, I used Vaseline to slip the top chassis rail into place, then got angry trying to slip rack back in and just scratched the chassis instead! More flipping painting!

As far as engineering goes the bends in the copper pipes are not tight enough, come on man, pull yourself together biggrin

Hilarious, ok so now I need pics of better bending! Their as I found them and was wondering how others pipes square up.

I don't like the idea of messing with them as there already 14 years old and didnt much look like they do now! Black so they were.

Is there such a thing as high temperature clear coat? Just thinking that those manifolds are going to rust up again in no time frown

You need an alloy radiator too hehe

Ive got the rad, its sad they will discolour but I've done a Y piece before and it still takes a bit of Solvol and at least stays smooth and shines abit.
I've been meaning to buy a thermo sensor gun and point it at the various bits to see how high the temp goes, then see if I can get something. It would be nice to keep them silver but its a loosing battle. Be interesting to see how they look a year down the road!
