Hi

after many years of lurking I'm finally in the position where (I think) I can afford to own and run a Chimaera and come May I hope to be in a position to buy, need to sell my Megane 225 first though... Ideally I'd like to buy a known car from a good owner, I don't particularly want to get caught out although my eyes are open to the risks. I'd love a 450 but probably can't afford a good one so would prefer a good 400 to a bad anything else. I've seen a 430 in the classifieds for under £7k but seems too cheap?
So if anyone has anything that might interest me or knows of a car then please let me know! And if anyone is in the Sheffield area and could show me their car so I know what to look for that would be really appreciated!

Many thanks
James

I would suggest going to see Richard at RT racing in Sheffield and looking at a couple that are up in the air on ramps. That would give you a good chassis reccie.

I've used them for spares, but Richard is very helpful. I'm sure he will let you have a look round. I'm in Whitwell near Worksop so if you need any help let me know.

If you want to have a look around a few cars the TVR Car Club have south Yorks meets on the third Wednesday evening of each month, next meeting is next Wednesday 16th , you will be made welcome TVRCC member or not.
The meets used to be at the Tavern at Hemmingfield but this has changed hands a few times over the last few years and on the TVRCCSY website it states location TBA.
I work in Sheffield city centre a few days a week and could meet up if you want a look round one.
Many people use Richard and he is knowledgeable on all things TVR , but personally I don’t use RT any more.

Thanks for all the helpful replies, what a nice bunch!

I'll definitely get along to the TVR meet on the 16th and have a poke around, I really need to familiarise myself before buying I think. I've looked at one car so far, it ended up selling for under £4k so was at the bottom end of the market and needed a lot doing cosmetically as you can imagine, probably not in good mechanical condition either! It's given me a barometer at least so I know what I don't want! I plan to use the car daily so it needs to be in good mechanical order, this is my priority, if it's got good paint/interior then this will be a bonus. Not overly concerned about mileage or engine size really, I think a 400 might be the wise decision for my first TVR...

DHilly, I'd really appreciate a look round your Chimaera, I don't want to put you out so I'm more than happy to come to you if you let me know when's convenient for you?

Many thanks

430s are quite sought after as they are a rarer build and many feel that they are the best of the engines, not far off the power of the 500 due to a high compression cam and produce a nice noise as they lack the cats fitted to latter cars.

Therefore 7k seems very cheap - I'd suspect there may be issues. Of course it could be a bargain. It will lack the cosmetic improvements of later cars

If it's all that's claimed I'd deffo be having a look, that's bugger all mileage either.. Didn't notice anything about history in the ad... There's a few specialists about that could do an independent inspection for you..

Good luck smile

Don't recognise it from the Northants TVRCC mob. Nice colour combo of black leather interior as opposed to the more common doeskin with green paintwork.

Worth a look & pronto……..
