I fitted a hot start kit a couple of years ago and it has worked faultlessly until today. As I attempted to start the car the starter motor engaged for an instant then lost power. A quick look around identified the hot start kit 20A fuse was blown. Changed the fuse and all was well for the next three starts then on the fourth start it blew again in exactly the same way.

Any ideas what may be causing the fuse to blow. I can easily loop the kit out of service but that'll reintroduce the hot start problem.

First suggestion is to contact Dave Beer. That's his PH name too. Use search to find him and PM him to ask if he knows if it could be the hot start mod relay.
If the mod is failing, and you have hot start issues, then your immobiliser could be the original root cause, though there are a number of theories on the cause.

Ta, I've got Dave's business phone number but he's not in over the weekend and I need a quick solution. I can manage with a bag full oh 20A fuses but it doesn't seem right somehow, the fuse is blowing as a safety feature and I should be fixing the root cause

Are you coming to Burghley, or is anyone you know?

I bought the Modwise mod summer 2012, but when Carl Baker replaced my entire Meta system Feb 2013 he handed me the mod and said no longer required.
So it is sitting on the shelf in my shed.
You can have it and welcome, but I don't have the wiring instructions.

If you aren't coming south today, I can just post it to you.

It's not the same fault, but it may help with some ideas...

The 20A fuse on my hot-start mod was consistently blowing when the main unfused supply to the starter motor failed (it had sheared off through metal fatigue). Seems that the starter was trying to pull all bazillion cranking amps through the modwise kit.

OOI is the solenoid engaging cleanly?

If Bobfather has a slightly dodgy connection to the starter (and who hasn't at our time of life? hehe ) then this could be exactly the problem.

Hot start mod in today's post to eliminate the mod's own relay, Bob.

The kit can not blow its fuse, there is a problem, Houston , wiring to the solenoid or the solenoid itself. I think you are calling today.?
