Anyone know the thread size on the 'spare' coolant sender (one just behind the ECU sender on our cars), the one that is often said to be in a better location than the TVR gauge sender? Is it 1/8 NPT anyone able to confirm?

Thanks Alex... I have a new sender I want to use; just trying to confirm it will pop straight in that location.

Be careful I have a feeling LR used a couple of different threads for the LR gauge sensor, just pull it out to check you won't lose much coolant from there.

Originally I wondered if it was folks getting confused between the different manifolds but I'm sure there was a post a while ago where someone had quite a large dia thread. If you want nptf, you can always pull out the throttle heater take off pipe and tap that npt?

Hi,
I can confirm that the Rover water temp sender is a 1/8 27 npt thread size.
This fitted to my late 94 Griffith. A quick search on ebay for the appropriate Rover V8 water temp sender also points to this fact.

Thanks, it certainly looks of that ilk and makes life nice and easy if so - next silly Q is anyone know the thread size for the extension spur that threads into the manifold as as fitted by TVR for their gauge sender - ie what size bung would be needed to delete (my OCD is offended by a multiplicity of unused senders hanging out of a motor and there's at least half an ounce to be saved)?

With what? I don't have any pipe thread measuring stuff, I will give it my best shot when I'm home, failing that I'm only about 10miles from you,you can measure it! tongue out

l rethreaded mine a while back to suit tvr sender which is bigger measuring 1/4 nptf from memory . l drilled it with a modified drillsmile to taping size, about 2 mm was drilled out so only small bits of swarf to fish out and very little was lost once l got the vacuum cleaner on it. !!. l had to file a large chamfer on one side of the sender as it foulded on the steel rail above it which goes round the base of the pelum . As for reading it is reading 10% hotter than the original location so fans are kicking in at 100 on the gauge. A lazer temp sender has confirmed this temp.
