white mould on carpet

Just behind the drivers seat is an area of white mould.
much like the rind of a brie cheese.

It only appears in winter.Carpet is not wet. So I guess the spores of said mould only grow in winter when there is moisture in the air.

any hints or tips on how to cure it before it eats the carpet.
hubs suggested Atheletes foot powder.as it is fungal.

I dont want to use bleach or even weak bleach as i have burgundy carpets..

If the carpet seems dry (although I suspect it must be getting damp at some time ?small leak), it may be worth investigating beneath the carpet for the source of the mould.
The give the carpet a good clean with some carpet cleaner you can get in most supermarkets.

Put some silica gel in a small container when you're not using the car. This will soak up the damp.
PS Don't drive off without taking it out or putting a lid on it.

Hubby suggested the silica gel also.
will shampoo carpet give it a thorough drying with a hair dryer and use the silica,and see how we go.
Must have been a problem before I bought the car as a small patch of pile was already missing behind drivers seat.

I often wondered why it had gone .Now I know the mould ate it.

Do not buy silica gel, i throw hundreds of packets away a week. In fact i probably have boxes containing around a ton. As long as postage is covered, its free.

going to get some from here : www.clarionservice.co.uk/ they get loads from packaging, he says just cover postage for all ph'ers. I am going to put it in my old nissan sylvia to provent damp

Treated it with atheletes foot powder,and put silica gel in car.
