Rattly Rear Calliper - -- ggrrrrrr
Discussion
HI all,
As usual hoping for a little help from all those experienced.
Im looking for a new anti rattle spring for rear brake calliper - Finally found the rattle after an evening of wobbling everything under the car... and yup, turned out to the rear near side calliper wobbling around when moving.
Anyone know where I can get one? Or who made the original brakes... Vauxhall, Ford, Rover?
Many Thanks

The pads are the only thing permitted to move. The caliper should be fixed tight.
Are they standard rear pads, where you have to undo the caliper bolts to change them, or after market calipers that allow pad removal without removing calipers, ie with a retaining pin through the edge of the pad and caliper? Photo would help

Easy way of telling if it is the brakes, not the dampers, rattling.
Drive along a typical suburban road (ie pot holes R us) at 20 mph and put your left foot on the brake very gently. Rattling stops, its the brakes. Doesn't stop, its the dampers, or the child you shut in the boot.
Or Phazed testing another set of dampers for his forthcoming article in Sprint "My Life with Dampers.....Clonk Clunk Every Hump"

I found these myself, but says they're for the front brakes... Are they same front and rear? QBee said:

Look like the originals, but definately some movement there in the calliper itself. I've got about 2mm of play if I hold the calliper and wobbly it. They seem to work perfectly, just that the bloody pad rattles around causing irritation to my burbly noiseAre they standard rear pads, where you have to undo the caliper bolts to change them, or after market calipers that allow pad removal without removing calipers, ie with a retaining pin through the edge of the pad and caliper? After alot of digging today, looks like the brakes are from SIERRA XR4i, does anyone know if this is a definite?
Although not much help, as i cant find a new spring for one of those either...lol
Perhaps I could siliconing the pad to the calliper... good idea? bad idea?... will it actually work?

I have done this with high performance callipers where the pads are generally a looser fit in the calliper.A little silicon on the back of the pad sticks it to the piston.
When you renew the pad, just peel it off.
