Took the chim out for a hoon tonight and noticed a slight clunking noise form underneath the rear, mainly when changing gear and letting up clutch. You can make it do it by stamping on and off the gas if that makes sense, that makes it make the clunking noise. It is all driving spot on and everything so will look to get it on a ramp over weekend if poss and check everything is tight.
Any common causes of this? Cheers.

As above...

...or something rolling loose in the boot (that's the cheapest option hehe)

I wish, if only it was that simple hey!
Hopefully it's something nice and easy, is the worse case a diff rebuild then?

Could be so many things. No point trying to guess until you've sussed it. Good luck!

I know but you know what it's like, your mind starts racing doesn't it hey, I just read one old thread that had the same symptoms and it turned out to be a loose exhaust somehow.
Have to get it in the air and have a look.

Cracked spring maybe?

also, 12 yrs ago with my first Chimaera, there was a clunk and slight axle tramp under power, one of the vertical brackets on the chassis underneath near the diff had broken away at a weld. Had to be rewelded. Sorry if that sounds a bit vague.

At around 9000 miles I thought I heard / felt expired UJs during shifts and power on / power off.
Took it to the dealer, and they bolted the differential back in for me eek
Four loose bolts (that required replacing).
While not every car had this happen, I have heard the story more than once, and at widely varying mileages.
I remember the dealer service manager saying simply; 'it happens sometimes'.

It's a simple fix compared to UJs, and a lot cheaper so worth a close inspection.
