do they lock if you press the button on top of the door release?

depress the courtesy light switch in the door sill, can you hear the central locking relay click under the dash top left & do the solenoids operate?

1 - Check fuses - sorry cant be more specific as to which one as there are a few different layouts

2 - Check central locking relay under dash top left - long grey one I believe

3 - Check solenoids haven't seized / dodgy connections

Mine did this 1st day i bought it, great i thought!

Has been ok since i lubricated the solonoid as the furthest one in sometimes didnt operate when button on release knob pressed but when pulled down manually it worked, after lubricating it its been (touch wood) ok (to get to them simply lift up carpet section velcro'd in place behind door.)

Pushed the couertesy switchs a few times and yes the solenoids moved!
Alarm then locked and worked fine!
Walked away and alarmed it and bugger not locked afain so its not fuses, either sticky solenoid or dodgy relay?
The PO never locked it so i suspect the solenoids have been awoken and not happy!!!
Will lubricate!!!

Probably worth taking the courtesy switches out and giving them a good clean up too, as they can get quite cruddy over time.

Make sure that when the door is closed, the door switch is sufficiently depressed to allow operation of the door solenoids. On mine there was a rubber shim (tap washer actually!)to increase the degree to which the switch is depressed, and this had become worn preventing the switch from breaking the circuit.
