Just preparing to sort my mate's intermittent electric windows before Le Mans.

Apparently when his widows fail they both fail, so I'm thinking its likely to be a loose or sticking relay?

Can someone confirm the location of the electric window relay, is it on the fuse board or one of the relays under the dash on the passenger side?

Thanks, Dave.

Looked in the Steve Heath bible. No mention of a relay on any relay board, fuse is the only 30 amp fuse on the main board in the footwell (could it be loose?). I am trying to remember the wiring behind the switches in my 99 Chim ,from when I had resident rodents. I have a feeling the wires to the two switches are connected. Dodgy earth under the centre tunnel cover?

Thanks to Anthony for trying to help, I've yet to get my hands on the offending car so I'm still open to suggestions chaps ears

I'd like to think my trusty multimeter will help nail the source of the problem quick smart, but its one of those annoying intermittent faults again rolleyes

Has anyone else had the intermittent window fault and found an obviousness fault? like I said apparently when it happens both widows fail simultaniously then both come back to life simultaniously a few days later.

Clearly it's something shared between the two window motors, anyone know the location of the relay or have any suggestions?

Thanks folks, there's a wealth of experience out there and I always think this forum works best when information & knowledge is shared wink

Thanks in advance, Dave thumbup

I wonder if it could be adapted to fit "manual" window winders ? would save a`lot of hassle .

Just to close this off and for the benefit of others with the same issue, I fixed FrenchieTVR's defective windows on Saturday.

As suggested it was simply a bad connection at the first switch so both were dead.

Just fusty connectors, I removed the centre console which is not strictly necessary but I was solving a temperamental handbrake switch at the same time so it made sense.

Removing the centre console allowed me to gain access to the little window switch loom, so I was both able to clean the multi-plug connector on the loom at the opposite end to the switches and the switch connectors themselves.

Result... both windows going up and down!!!

Thanks for pointing me to the switches jojackson4, it certainly saved me time by taking me straight to the source of the problem thumbup

If anyone else has the problem of two dead windows I too recommend starting at the switches yes

Thanks again for the tip, it's clearly a common problem.

On my car and all others I've looked at the two parallel channels front and rear are far from parallel, they taper together slightly towards the bottom of the door creating a wedge effect.

I found the rubber channel liners that the edges of glass run in can be trimmed with a sharp craft knife to good effect without running the risk of window rattles, this greatly increases the lift speed.

There is another theory that the lift motors aren't fed with sufficient amps, the wiring is certainly of a lighter gauge than you might expect and you'll laugh like a drain when the see how long the loom is inside the door.

However, I jumped my motors directly off the battery with some 60amp cable and saw no real improvement, only trimming the back face of the rubber channel liner helped.

Good luck with it smile
