bonnet fixing

The bonnet hinges on my car are knackered and i have been looking at how to repair them . Basically the threaded studs in the bonnet have come loose and have been replaced with nuts and bolts (which have also come loose ) so i will have to remove my bonnet to make a repair to the fibreglass.
So i thought i may do it a bit different and make the bonnet removable using something like these-

Has anyone done this and can you see any problems? I think it would make access better to the engine

Discopotatoes used them to keep the bonnet closed.

I would repair the hinges or you will have to lift the bonnet off every time you need access to the engine.

Mmm, i suppose you are right. It would be nice at home to just lift the bonnet out of the way but not so much fun if i ever had to at the side of the road.

I guess its time to get my fibreglassing skills upto scratch. This is what i have got to work with, looks like it been repaired with chemical metal that has come off in one big lump

Also, i think the car has been painted at some point as i have found a few chips with purple underneath

I have finally decided to tackle the bonnet hinge. I bought a box from TET mouldings as recommended by Fluidslvr^^^. So set about removing the bodged damaged one


Then measured up the new replacement TET Mouldings hinge box


and set about fixing it in place on the bonnet

While the box is setting in place i decided to free off and lube the rose joints only to find another problem, the hinges i have seem to be at a different angle surely this cant be right??

Oh YES it is, Mine are like that, each side different, wonder why they made them like that.

Hmmm, thought one of mine may have been repaired but guess not? cant imagine why they are different, surely that is putting a strain on the rose joints? Anyone any idea?

NickOrangeTVR has his bonnet fixed with four (hat) pins I cannot remember if they are the type that go through the bonnet and have a locking pin note outside, or the flush racing type.

To remove his bonnet safely he and his valet Dad take one side each and lift the whole thing clear.

I have the same failure on myu bonnet and it is on my list to fix in the nextcouple of weeks. I hadn't noticed that the two hinges were dfferent, best check that tonight.

Madmarsie, did you just stick the TET hinge box with some silicon sealent/adhesive? How easy was the old one to get off? I cannot decide weather to do a fibre glass fix or replace the whole hinge box.
