I just got my quote for renewal from Adrian Flux.
After my accident they have tripled the policy cost to over £1700.
I think thats ridiculous at my age for a second car on limited mileage and wont pay it.

I will be attending hot rod and hills next weekend then putting the car in the garage.
Tidy a few things up then there will be a very nice Chim on the market.
Be sad to see it go but got a Jensen to rebuild.

Have you tried Mannings?

Flux prices do seem to have increased significantly of late - I moved from Flux two years ago because of this.

I don't understand that. Presumably you didn't lose no claims as they wouldn't have been used on the car anyway so why the increase? Is it just the fact you had a bump?

Have you tried talking to them and also thinking about decreasing your annual mileage declaration. You often find that you can add on extra 1000 mile increments for cheaper than declaring them all at the start of the year if you get near your limit.

Problem is i am very limited to Insurance companies covering nitrous oxide.
Just recently AF applied a no claims discount for some reason.
On the renewal it states the accident i had i lost control. Wasnt the case. I hit a rock that had been knocked from a dry stone wall by a lorry. My fault for not seeing it i guess but this hike in premium is too high.

I will shop about and have a good think.

Do you have the nitrous connected and armed on the road?

Can't you state that it has N02 but disconnect the bottle at all times apart from on the strip?

Thats how i used to play it. AF covered me for a 100 shot on the road.
I dont use it on the road anymore. Not much point and i need to save the gas for racing.

Just need to find an understanding insurance provider.

Can`t they allow for all those years you have paid the premium and not claimed ? they have had your money for nothing .

They seem to want there cake and eat it ..

If you remove the bottle you do not have a nitrous system and they don`t insure you down the strip so what is the problem ..

Insurance companies always seem to be very pleasant on the phone when taking your money but when it comes to claiming they can be aggressive , Had it with my van ,they would not replace the wing only fill and paint ,i was not even in the van when it got hit .. There excuse was "it had stone chips before the damage !!!"

They make me sick .

That's a damn shame Derek, there must be something you can do? Surely if, like stated above, you tell them you only have the NoS connected on the strip then in the eyes of the insurer you don't have it at all?

As for the Jensen, is that your recently departed friend's car you're rebuilding?

Derek, call Classic Line and ask for Lauren. 01455 639000. They insure me, modified car, including all track days and with unlimited mileage for under £500, with a less than perfect accident record (total loss 5 years ago).

Discuss the nitrous with them, but make it clear that it will not be used on the road and the bottle will be disconnected and carried in the boot. Explain exactly what happened in the accident - no other vehicle involved. Mine was similar (in that I dodged the car coming straight at me, driver texting and rolled the car in a deep ditch). They seem to prefer accidents with no other vehicle involved.

Yes Nick, it seems the Jensen wasnt insured. He literally took it down a back street 50 yards for MoT.
He picked it up with a bulb out and had a heart attack in the car just after pulling it out the MoT station.
To say i am not in a good place concerning all things cars at the moment is an understatement.

Will get through the next week then enjoy Hot rods and hills in Tonys honour but will be considering all options carefully after that.

Have you tried for just normal insurance rather than classic/limited mileage etc? I've got a far from perfect record and lots of non speeding naughty points, don't really get many offers on the meerkat site but pay £900ish through aviva as a slightly modified daily driver.

You cannot sell the Chim Derek, it would be like selling one of you limbs.

Where there is a will there is a way. I think I would start off like others have said with running the nitrous disconnected on the road. Like you said there is very little point running Nitrous on the road, especially seeing as your Chim is very rapid without the gas anyway.

Someone crashed into the back of my S2000 while I was stationary (handbrake on) and next year my insurance wanted an extra £900 as I have been 'involved' in an accident. Insurance companies really fk me off. I changed insurer but still ended up paying an extra £200 for 3 years because of an non fault claim. mad

Try other specialists and see what they can offer. If not then either the meercats or the robot. My cheapest price is always from Elephant for the Griff but I prefer to go with Mannings and pay a little extra for agreed value and track day cover.

I hope you get it sorted anyway chap and remember selling the Chim is not an option here wink

Nothing personal Derek .... But you did get a repair and half a respray ... Insurance companies are in it to make money at the end of the day getmecoat

The part I "like" frown from insurance companies is " The guaranteed NO CLAIMS BONUS of 60% of whatever" ... what they don't say is that if they wish they will change of the price of the basic policy if you have a claim or get points. So guaranteed 60% of an increased policy is more than 60% of the old policy value.... Tails you lose, Heads they win .

If you claim and its non fault why do you have to pay extra on renewal ? surely thats what you pay your insurance for ..

If the other company has paid out why would your own insurance company up the premium when its cost them nothing .

Just don`t get it . The rules need to be changed to benefit us .

Really hope it doesnt come to selling Derek. I know you have put a lot of effort in re building the car over the last few years.

Do some serious ringing around, you never know.
