Just getting the car ready for an mot next week , I noticed the headlight reflectors are looking very dull..50/50 chance if they will get thru the next mot ...
Now done search on here it throws up all types of options ...
1 , buy new reflectors and spend half a day splitting the lamp glass away and refitting ...(replacement reflectors aren't cheap)
2, sending the reflectors away and have re chromed / silvered ...this might take weeks..
3,lupo light conversion ...
4 , Steve Edwards light conversion and painting stone chips out , again time ,this will take weeks ..
5, even been suggested to spray paint for short term fix , don't really fancy this ether ...
I'm open to all suggestions

Or it would be ideal if anyone has a set of headlights they want to sell for some beer tokens ...

6. get a set of Osram Nightbreaker or similar bulbs, that are the standard wattage but chuck out twice as much light - got mine through with corroded reflectors.

If there just dull and not badly rusted then it should go tho, like said the night breakers are good bulbs and cheap. The paint option i'd avoid the finnish is no where near chrome. Wait till winter then look at sorting them, replace or get re chromed. Only way to truley sort it use different headlight thats sealed, like the lupos or the flared in lights use a seal beam unit.

I thought that the MOT tested pattern only - not brightness ... Am I wrong again ?

They won't check light intensity per sae but if they can see your lights are badly corroded and feel that this adversely affects performance they can fail it.

So with this in mind, nightbreakers (which I run in my Octavia with great results) wouldn't necessarily help with an MOT on the OT case ?

I was told by Austec, easiest thing to do in the first instance was to squirt in some break / clutch fluid to clean up the reflectors - dry it out with an air hose afterwards...

Mine are very corroded too, I also have misted lenses, so it does look pretty bad. Can see fine though, better than most defenders I have driven for sure! (I have to stay at defender speed, though, sadly)
