Hi...just wondering if anyone can help? Went to an Auto show on Sunday in Uxbridge, parked up and then returned a couple of hours later to find that some gitt had smashed into the drivers side front quarter leaving the headlight and perspex cover smashed, and the fibre glass around it nicely splintered. Gutted. However, the culprit left a mobile number behind but has left it switched off ever since....does anyone know how I can find out who owns the number? Is it a case of leaving it up to my insurance company? I've phoned the Police and they, rather annoyingly, say that as it didn't happen on a public highway, they have 'no need to get involved'!!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated....

Have you tried the DVLA? They aren't always terribly helpful at giving out details, but when I bought my last car it'd been re-registered several times and caused incredible confusion with the HPI check. So I called them and got all the details straight with them, no trouble. Might be worth a go?
Sorry to hear about your car though, some people are dishonest gits.

No problem, call the police again and tell them you think the guy was speeding. You can bet that SO19, Serious Fraud Office, Flying Squad, Helicopters and a full Scotland Yard investigation will be put on the case within hours.
Jas.

Still a crime though isn't it? Malicious damage? If I murder someone in my house it's not on a public highway either, but Plod might be interested. Plod tries to avoid crimes he knows he can't easily prosecute/score a victory. Try again and ask for a crime number, that way it becomes an official statistic.
I think that's the only way, as the phone compnay certainly isn't going to dish out customer's details without Plod on the case.

I would go to a mobile phone shop and ask in there if you can decipher which network a certain number belongs to, by the code(07939-One2One/T-Mobile).
If so, then phone the head office for that network and explain the situation. Maybe they can help...
Hope it gets sorted out very soon.

I would just keep trying the number ,if they wanted to disappear they would have drove off without leaving the number! Additionally if it is a "pay as you go" phone and they top it up with vouchers there may be no record of the owner!Good Luck
